Pocket SNES (Super Nintendo Emulator)
Super Nintendo Emulation has arrived. Pocket SNES is a great Super Nintendo Emulator for the Blackjack 2. The graphics are superb, as to be expected, and it plays pretty well. The one thing I’m getting used to is the 4 button key placement (A, B, X, Y) .. i haven’t found the perfect key mapping to allow me to easily hold down multiple buttons at once.
The CAB file installs a PocketSNES shortcut in Start > Games.
When you start PocketSNES the first time, go to Options > Keys… and define you’re all your keys, especially the “Menu” key. (I was unable to figure out what the default “Menu” key mapping was after I entered the game)
To download SNES Roms visit RomNation or Google “SNES Roms Download”.
Note: You will not be able to download ROMs directly to your smartphone using PocketIE (Mobile Internet Explorer). PocketIE supports very few mime-types/file extensions for download and ROM files aren’t included. I suggest using Opera Mobile to download the ROM files directly to you Smartphone, or download them to your computer and copy them over to your Smartphone using ActiveSync/Bluetooth/etc.
If you have are having problems installing and using the PocketSNES emulator, checkout this YouTube video.
Performance suggestions:
- Display Settings: Portrait Landscape
- Display Settings: Select “Auto Frame Skip”
- Display Settings: Set “Frame Skip” to “4″
- Sound Options: Don’t enable sound
If you want sound, make sure: Settings > Sounds > Other Sounds > Wheel Key sound > On (Thanks to shoemup for the tip!)
Disclaimer: Please verify the legality of any ROM file you download – some ROMs may be legal to download, others may not be.

how exactly do you install this onto the phone? ive tried innumerable times and it doesnt work. when i use the file explorer and open the zipped folder containing the files, all i get is a code. please help!
June 9th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Waldo,
Please read “Tips & Trick – How to install a CAB file”.
June 9th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
yeah, this CAB is a little tricky. i’ve been able to install every other CAB this site has posted and its worked fine but this one won’t install right on my phone either. it installs, wheni download a game and try to open it, it says that the application isn’t running. am i supposed to change the .smc?
June 9th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
xgabex,
Are you trying to open the ROM (.SMC) file from FileExplorer or from PocketSNES (File > Load Rom..) ?
I used the CAB file on the post to install PocketSNES on my Blackjack 2 just now and it works for me. I noticed that if I only have 1 ROM (.SMC) file in the folder, I couldn’t select it to play it via PocketSNES’s “Load Rom” interface.. I have to put a second ROM file which allowed me to select between the two.. after that I could launch either ROM just fine.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
oooooh, i got it now. the Pocketsnes option wasn’t in my “applications” folder, it was in my “games” folder.
June 9th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
i got it in there and working fast , but when i transfered my 1 gig of games to my BJ II , it wont seem to find them like ness and gen, whats going on? only a hand full , is like a pal or something???
June 10th, 2008 at 4:25 am
Question on functionality. Say you get a phone call while you’re playing a game, does the BJ2 freeze up? I remember playing doom and it froze up when I received a call, causing me to actually remove the battery to restart my whole phone.
June 10th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah Booooooi!!! Finally got it to work! Thanks 4 the link the other ones I tried didn’t work! I was haveing flash backs of back in the day when I had a sega (picodrive) and couldn’t play zelda or super mario…so sad!
Now I can!!! IF YOU TRIED IT BEFORE AND IT DIDN’T WORK TRY THIS ONE, CAME RIGHT UP FOR ME!
June 11th, 2008 at 2:05 am
when i load the rom it loads in landscape left, and i cant get it to change through the settings. It simply wont let me select it. Anyone know how to fix this?
June 11th, 2008 at 9:14 am
mooseman,
In PocketSNES, Go to: Options > Display.., Select “Landscape Left”, now click the D-Pad Left/D-Pad Right to change the Display setting.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:10 am
yo wassup
is there any reason i can’t use sound besides the battery factor
or does it just not work
June 11th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Nope,
Sounds should work just fine — Turn it on and try it out — if you notice any buggy/laggy behavior – turn it back off
June 11th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
uuh i may be being a pain but which ones do i check off
June 11th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
hey i got it working but when i try to load the roms only those from jap work , and one us , why wont they show up? it works on the pc or cousre ,
June 11th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
t3tr1s,
I was able to get all the (U) SNES Roms to work .. i think that stands for Universal? Im not entirely sure.. Those are the only ones I tried.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
black,
I have my Display options in PocketSNES set to “Portrait Large”
June 13th, 2008 at 3:46 am
I believe i has to be a .smc kind of rom
and also david I was talking about the sound
June 13th, 2008 at 5:04 am
my phone freezes everytime I try to load pocketsnes now lol… having troubles getting this one to work properly.
June 13th, 2008 at 5:22 am
its just goes black I have it dl’d and I have the rom on my phone but every time it just goes black and does nothing.
June 26th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
ok i downloaded megan man x3 and i put the zip file in my “my documents” folder on my bj2. but when i got to load rom on pocketsnes and i select the zip file it doesnt do anything? help?
June 28th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
will – have you tried unzipping the zip file? and opening the file that the zip file contains?
July 4th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
hey if i have the games saved on my internal memory how can i delete them. a few of the games i’ve tried haven’t worked
July 4th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
scrodo,
Use your File Explorer (Start > Applications > File Explorer) to delete the unwanted SNES ROM files. Select the unwanted file in the File Explorer, select the right soft key (Menu) and select Delete.
July 12th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
i was wondering if there was a n64 emulator… and how do you install games onto the phone from rom nation? ( i download the zip file and add it to my phone and it doesnt play… can anyone help?)
July 12th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I am not aware of a N64 emulator for Windows Mobile 5/6 .. I dont think current smartphones have the horsepower to run a N64 emulator.
To use ROMS, download them, copy them to your phone/storage card and the open them via the Emulator.
July 13th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
thanks. and if a n64 emulator ever comes out… please post it. thanks.
July 15th, 2008 at 12:48 am
ive tried this emuator more than once. once i load a rom the whole screen turns black and i have to shut it off. Ive tried like 7 separate roms. i dont know what the issue is.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
brocco,
Can you email me a couple of the rom files you are giving you problems? My e-mail address is: david@myblackjack2.com
July 16th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Pocket SNES works for me but the only rom i really want to play in it want work
super metriod
i have downloaded at least 10/15 different versions some times i get a black screen and other all i get is the nintendo logo at the begining
if any 1 knows a super metriod that works plz post a link
July 18th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
some website will list multiple roms of the same name with different letters and symbols next to them U is universal for USA so you want to get one that says that and a lot use ! to show that its a working good rom file
July 18th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
also the best way i’ve found to get roms to work on my phone is to find the .smc file in the zipped game file (sometimes thats the only one) and e-mail that file to myself, open it though you outlook express in your phone and when you click on the attached file click menu and save as.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
My games run fine, I’ve tried lots of ROMs, but no matter which ones I try, my sound doesn’t work. I’ve played with all the settings and my phone isn’t on silent. Any ideas?
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Everytime i try to open a ROM the phone freezes and i have to turn it off
July 31st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
For some reason every game i have tried does not work on my phone. I think its the one with the mb and not the kb. I have to keep turning my phone off and on because it freezes. Should not bother with this at all?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:30 pm
ploudermilk – what kind of phone do you have? This install should be VERY straightforward. Install the CAB and youre done. Can you e-mail me the name of the ROM files you are using?
Thanks
July 31st, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Well I have been reading more on this and I think I have been choosing the wrong ones. I am sorry I do not remember which roms they were. I have a bbj2
August 2nd, 2008 at 12:29 am
I got it to install on my blackjack 2 just fine but when i try to play it it runs so slow.Has anybody else had this problem?
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:08 am
jtn,
Close all other programs that are running your task manager and see if that helps. To access your Task Manager hold down the “Home” button for a couple of seconds. My PocketSNES emulator runs fine (thought i havent tried that many games yet) .. on that note, try a couple of other games and see if they all run slow or if its just a couple.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I downloaded the file PocketSNES from the top of this screen and i believe i got the tgetfile to work, i transfered the tget. file to my phone (the file looks like a folder with a zipper) then found it on my phone and opened it and clicked the cab file and it loaded ok i believe. But when i put the SNES.cab file on my phone and find it with my BJII, i click it and it says loading, but then says it was UNSUCESSFUL, and i know how to work the CAB. files so whats up with this?
Thanks!
August 5th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Also i noticed with the regular NES emu. *THE FIRST TIME YOU USE THE ROM* if you find your rom files through File explorer and click em that way, it loads the game fine, but when i tried to load them through the emulator for the first time it wouldnt go, so just load roms through File-Explorer and then they should work ok, especially when you go back into the EMU and load.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
wayoinc, what kind of phone do you have? and what version of Windows Mobile OS? Also – is your phone application unlocked? PocketSNES should install just fine even if the tGetFile isnt installed properly (you would just have problems loading ROMs)
August 5th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I’m having troubles with my sound as well.. I’ve downloaded multiple roms and none of them seem to play the sound. I’ve messed with the sound options, but nothing works.. Help?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:23 am
mattownz, open PocketSNES, go to Options > Sound. Make sure “Sound Emulation” and “Stereo” are checked. Audio Quality is set to 8bit, Sample Rate: Low, and then hit OK. with those settings I get sound on my PocketSNES install. also make sure your headset volume is turned up. (the volume toggle on the top-left side of the phone)
August 9th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
I too can not get my sound to work on any ROM. But I don’t think the ROM’s are the issue. Every time I check the sound, I check Sound Emulation and Stereo, then I hit ok. Then I’ll check it and they are still checked, so I hit OK again.
Then I open a ROM, and no sound. So I exit, go to sound. And everything is unchecked even though it just was! AHH
August 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Hey guys. After a lot of experimenting I found a solution to my Audio problem.
Settings>Sounds>Other Sounds>Wheel Key sound> On
If you ever turned off that annoying wheel key sound, like I did, no sounds on the ROM’s will work. As soon as I turned it on, the sound came for all the games!
August 11th, 2008 at 9:59 am
So I’ve got the emulator installed, and I’ve got roms loaded on my micro sd, but whenever I go to load the rom, i starts then just goes completely black.
Anyone know a solution?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I am having the same issue as KingJames. I installed everything as shown in the YouTube video, and every time I try to load up a rom, the screen goes black, and I have to shutdown my phone and restart. I’ve tried loading a Secret of Mana, Alien vs Predator, and Contra 3: Alien Wars. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
August 13th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Kingjames, creech – Did you application unlock your Blackjack II’s? If so what method(s) did you use?
August 15th, 2008 at 10:50 am
No, what I did, did not unlock my BJII. But I just swapped my rom files for some different ones, and now it works just fine. The files seemed to be the same thing, so I’m not sure why it would hang up on the file. But regardless its working fine now.
Thanks for your help, and your awesome website!
August 15th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Creech – Great to hear! Yeah, everyone has to remember that not all ROMs/version of all ROMs will play on these emulators. You might have to search Google and find different versions of the same game for it work (this is something that’s plagued most emulators in my experience)
August 22nd, 2008 at 1:08 pm
This might be a dumb question but I just tried playing Mega Man X, and I used the settings you had… but the game seems to be very slow and sluggish. Is this normal?
August 22nd, 2008 at 1:43 pm
corbinr, My game play was fine .. did you have other programs running the background that might have been taking up system resources?
August 22nd, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Nope, I’m trying it now and I don’t, but it still seems sluggish. Only PocketSNES is running, and at 35.9MB.
August 24th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
If it helps at all, I installed PicoDrive and it works flawlessly on all games. Maybe I’ll just try reinstalling PocketSNES.
Did anyone find a comfortable 4 button key placement?
September 1st, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Hey guys I have a Moto Q 9h with WM6.1. I installed the emulator and it loads the roms but all I one can see is four horribly stretched lines. Ny the way in my display options there is no such thing as Portrait Large. Any help will be appreciated
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I have not had a chance to test the PocketSNES emulator on a WM 6.1 phone yet – so I unfortunately can’t help. Has anyone else had any experience w getting PocketSNES to run on a WM 6.1 phone?
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I tried a couple of extra ways of installing it but at no avail.
Oh well. hey, at least pocket NES works… that will have to do for now.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:41 am
So im playing easily on my BJ2, and playing chrono trigger it wont allow me to Press the L and R button at the same time to complete a function any ideas?
September 5th, 2008 at 3:08 am
So i upgraded my BJ II to windows 6.1 I installed SNES again. It works just as good as before. I also install the tGetfile just in case. But like everyone else, some of the roms dont wont. David, I took your advise on the roms with the [U] on it, but I guess not all of em worked.
The only game that worked on my SNES is Chrono Trigger, but it did have a glitch in the game. I’ve tried Super Mario RPG (really really want to play bad) with the [U]and also Tales of Phantasia, but they dont seem to work. I was wondering if anyone else had any luck with those games?
But either way, lucky Chrono Trigger works, and thank you David.
September 22nd, 2008 at 3:26 pm
You don’t need “Key Wheel Sound” set to “on”. it did nothing for me.
I just went to sound options and checked “sound emulator > Sync Sound > Adjust Frequency” i checked both the sync sound and the adjust frequency or the box about frequency to keep it from distorting over my phone. You might have to restart the emulator after you set these option.
September 27th, 2008 at 5:59 am
chrono trigger cannot be completed due to the L+R+A combination needed
September 29th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
lol i got it to work and am currently playing Zombies ate my neighbors
October 11th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Hey, I just got the blackjack 2, and I have been looking for a good 2D shooter game. I am not really sure of any nintendo games, so what is a good 2D shooter game? I would really like to know the name of the game that is on the picture for the SNES emulator.
Thanks
November 5th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

November 28th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

I installed this SNES emulator on my BlackJack 2, The Emulator works perfectly fine and all of the Roms as well, However my phone is crazy slow and the battery life is horrible, is there anything that i can do to improve the speed of the phone? or is this is something i am going to have to live with?
December 8th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
DolFan, Do you mean your Blackjack II is slow and a small battery life in general, or when you are running PocketSNES?
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
hey guys, i know some of you been trying to play chrono trigger, and there is a part after you catch the rat that you need to put a password, i have a save file, just a little bit after the password, if some one wants my save just download from this link and load save after you load your rom..
after you pick your the part that you want and unzip the file, change the .zst to .pss and the save should work, tried on my and working fine!!!
December 27th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

December 29th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
ok i finally got the emulator working and i downloaded the game megaman x3, it is soooooo hard to play. does anyone know a good key configuration????
January 11th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
In regards to Chrono Trigger the best way to get passed the L+R A thing and keep your data in the game is to…
A) Take the saved state off your phone (will be a .pss file)
B) Load the game on your PC with Snes9x (configure the buttons so L and R are on the same buttton)
C) Change the Saved state to .001
D) Load the saved state .001 on Snes9x (its slot 2)
E) Complete the rest of the mission on the computer and when you come back up and talk to the old man about the seed you can turn left and there will be a save point (SAVE! at this save point) Right After go into file on the emulator and Save Other and save the S-Ram Data
G) Now on your phone where you have the Chrono Trigger.smc and Chrono Trigger.srm And delete the .srm one and drag the .srm you saved on your PC to the phone (Ultimately replacing it but it wont work if you try to actually replace it you have to delete it from your phone)
H) So now you should have Chrono Trigger.smc And the NEW Chrono Trigger.srm on your phone and Presto load the rom and when it goes to the 3 save slots load the one you saved at on your PC! donezo

January 20th, 2009 at 11:02 am

February 25th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
mister – you dont have menus that you can access using the left and right softkeys?
March 30th, 2009 at 10:40 am
After installing the pocketsnes emulator on my phone and a handfull of roms on my micro sd, I was able to get the snes app running just fine. However, only one or two of the smaller games ran just fine while most of the other larger snes roms took forever loading up, and then lagged to the point of crashing the phone during play. So using the >settings > remove programs I removed pocketsnes off of my phone.
However now my battery will not charge as normal. When I plug my phone in to either a USB or wall charger the yellow light flashes. However activesync still opens as soon as I plug my phone into my computer.
The only way I can get it to charge now is if I plug the phone in to a charger first, then remove the battery and insert it back in while it is plugged in.
Any thoughts on this?

May 29th, 2010 at 1:15 pm
I just got a new Samsung Jack, not a Blackjack. I dont think they are the same thing but I was able to get both the SNES and the NES working. My only problem is that i dont have sound. I went into the setting like it said to but theres no mouse wheel sound option so i cant change that to get sound. what should i do?
May 29th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
I just did what Jurnis said above, but the sound is pretty loud. Is there any way to turn it down?
June 30th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
I’ve been an unofficial tester / tweaker of the PocketNES and PocketSNES on the Blackjack2 for quite some time and I have these reccomendations for everyone…
PERFORMANCE ISSUES: I would reccomend to everyone that before you run an emulator to shutdown all backround programs by going to Start->Applications->Task Manager and selecting the “Stop” option on any running programs. Also I reccomend turning down your ringer volume with the side buttons to level 2 or 3 that way the beeps and boops of the video games don’t explode your eardrums. We all love the Mario Bros. 2 theme, but not louder than an airplane.
POCKET NES: Works PERFECTLY for me. I use frameskip 2 and voila it works great. This emulator may lock your phone up unless you press the emulator menu button quickly when you get a call. ( I mapped mine to the “return” key that looks like a curved arrow pointing left.)
POCKET SNES: Seems to max out the phones processor/video. If you run it without sound it helps a little but not much. This application will lock your phone up when you get a call. My reccomendation is that you put your phone on airplane mode where you wont receive calls while you use this emulator. It’s an inconvenience, but who really wants a call when you’re on the last level of Donkey Kong Country anyways? Also, There is an issue with fog on some games not displaying correctly (Donkey Kong Country2) change the transparent effects in the emulator menu if you are having that problem.
Key Mapping: I use the following buttons and it works quite comfortably for me.
-PocketNES-
O- (B Button)
P- (A Button)
G- (Select)
H- (Start)
-PocketSNES-
K- (Y Button)
O- (X Button)
P- (A Button)
L- (B Button)
G- (Select)
H- (Start)
Z- (L Button)
M- (R Button)

Hey I got this on my dinosaur (blackjack2) and I want super marios, and metroids, anyone got any that work and are not protected by esp
