Palringo
My favorite instant messaging client… and its FREE to boot. Works with AIM, GTalk/Jabber, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo and Gadu. The Palringo team does a pretty good job of updating the software every 3-4 months adding new functionality and features. They monitor their forums pretty well — If you have a suggestion for them you should drop by and leave them a note.
- Requires registering (free) with the Palringo server at www.palringo.com.
- Newly supports multiple conversations at a time via the “Chats” list.
- Layout is not tailored to the Blackjack 2′s 320px x 240px screen.
- When Palringo is run in the background for long periods of time (several hours) battery life is drastically reduced. Paringo has released a Data/Power Saving option in the “Settings” menu, however I have not had a chance to test how this effects usability or battery life.

Do you get charged per message (like a text message)?

Palringo does not charge per message, but it DOES use your data connection (i recommend unlimited data plan) .. .

In addition to this, I highly suggest Jivetalk for Windows Mobile. Right now its at it’s beta stage, but it’s really good and free too. You can choose the classic old school theme that the regular os im client has or a few others. It also has the ability to add custom away messages! It’s my favorite right now and since it’s only beta it will only get better (automatic updates btw). Try it out!

techbeast,
whoa – jivetalk looks great — do you know if there is anyway to turn off the sound effects tho? that gets annoying pretty quick.

hm i just checked preferences and it looks like there isn’t a way to disable sound notifications right now. hopefully soon they’ll add that feature, add notifications of ims while we’re using the phone, and choices of our own sounds.
if you would like to helps them out with requests check out their support forum. oh and i’m also kind of tired of the sound notifications too so for now i just press the home button and occasionally check back on the program to see if i have new ims haha.

techbeast,
i turned my earpiece volume all the way down and it got rid of the sound notifications.. this is the best solutions, but it works until they add the ability to mute all sound notifications.

I’m using BeejiveIM for Windows Mobile beta 0.9.2.4 on my Blackjack 2 WM 6.1 anyone having connection problems? Also it uses a lot of battery I didn’t experience this problem with Palringo. I wish Palringo had bubble style chats.
