As far as I can tell you can only have a single ActiveSync connection at a time. If you connect to a MS Exchange server using ActiveSync for work, you won’t be able to Google Sync to sync your Gmail and Google Calendar items. If there is a way around this, please leave a comment!

Even though this is a bit late others may still benefit from this. After much research I found that if you want an alternative given no Data plan is available. You could sync Google calendar and gmail to Mozilla Thunderbird and Sunbird (on your PC), then download Birdie Sync... well, if you're interested, I've posted it on the forums:

The problem I have with Google contacts is the limited number of fields. Google doesn't even have a field for a contact's birthday! Sure, you could put it in the "Notes" section, but it's not the same.
I would give it a try if you could sync with Outlook, but as of now it's just google calendar that syncs with Outlook.

I'm not sure what that comment about Plaxo means.
My Plaxo syncs just fine, both with Outlook, and over-the-air with my Blackjack II.
