Flexilis

Flexilis Beta Sign-up

Flexilis is like if DashWire and ClamWin (or whatever your favorite anti-virus program may be) had a child. Flexilis is an anti-virus application for your Smartphone, prevents attacks from would-be-hackers,  and back up your phone’s data, which is in turn accessible via a web front-end on flexilis.com.

This is a bit of speculation, but I believe smartphone with data connections are accessible via the internet, so hackers/viruses/malware/etc could try to gain unauthorized access to your device via the internet, im not sure if Flexilis would prevent Bluetooth based attacks, their knowledge base is still very small. Feel free to correct me on this in the comments.

Flexilis

Flexilis allows you to backup: Contacts, Pictures, Documents, Call History, SMS Messages, Audio and Video. I know you can ATLEAST restore Contacts, Pictures and Documents. It looks like I can restore SMS Messages one at a time. I hope as Flexilis matures they’ll augment their “Restore” functionality.

So sign-up for the beta, it looks like a pretty cool application and if they flush out their “restore” functionality they could become a very serious threat to DashWire.

    Is it free?

  2. david Says:

    Devon,
Flexilis is currently free. I don’t know if that will change after the beta but I tend to doubt it??

Hi! This is John from the Flexilis team. Thank for the write up. Regarding your question about bluetooth security: Our security technology is designed to stop attacks against bluetooth and a whole host of protocols/attack vectors. Our goal is to keep your mobile device and data safe so you can focus on all the cool things you do with your device without having to worry. :)

The team is working to incorporate all the great user feedback we are getting and should be pushing out a new release shortly.

@Devon – Yes, the app is free. We are currently in private beta.

You have a registration problem? I got everything on my BJII, it restarted and the login came up. It kept saying that my email and password don’t match…. but I can log into the site no problem… any ideas?

  5. david Says:

    revdave,
I dont have a login problem.. id try sending flexilis support a message and see if they can help.

  6. endlessoul Says:

It looks as if there is something like a task manager that comes with the program. As in, meters to show what kind of load my programs are putting on my phone. Is this the case?

For that matter, if Flexilis doesn’t have a task manager, is there such a thing for smartphones in general?

  7. johnhering Says:

@revdave27 – Send us a note at support@flexilis.com and we will get you squared away.

@endlessoul – The graph you are referring to indicates recent system/network activity (relevant to security status).

  8. david Says:

endless, were you asking if the Blackjack II has a task manager? If you hold down the Home button it pulls up the Task Manager, though it doesn’t have any sort of resource usage graphs (like Windows XP/Vista’s does).

  9. Devon Says:

I’ve signed up, but still havent received the invte. How long does it take?

  10. p11skater Says:

i signed up midday yesterday and got my invite last night when i got home at 3AM. so should only be a few hours i think…

on another note. ive gotten 8 of the same security events:
Protocol State Value Violation – TCP flags cannot be 16 while in closed state.
all are from Src port 5721, varying Dst ports, and all from Src IP 169.254.2.2

Does the flexilis site have an area i cant find where it explains the different security events?

  11. p11skater Says:

but on another note, seems like a great program! i noticed dashwire automatically got my stuff uploaded from my memory card as well though (pics, etc) maybe this could be worked on. ill send some feedback on the site about it. seems like this will be pretty sweet!

  12. duckhunterjoe Says:

I have a question, does this application use your data connection? SO would it cost $$ if i didnt have an unlimited data plan?

  13. johnhering Says:

@p11skater – Thanks for the feedback! We are working on a system to simply communicate security events etc. Also, regarding the memory card, send us a note with what you would like to see in terms of functionality and we will review it.

  14. johnhering Says:

@devon – we are working to grant invites as quickly as possible given the current volume of requests. Thanks for being patient :) .

  15. johnhering Says:

@duckhunterjoe – yes it does use your data connection in a similar way that Google Maps or other applications do to connect to our servers etc. We recommend that you have an unlimited data plan in place.

  16. Tahrann Says:

Ok, before I download this and put it on my BJ2, how would you guys rate this app?

  17. xpnkfemmex Says:

when i download Flexills, it said they recommend to have unlimited data plan.. does that mean Flexills isn’t free? so i need unlimited internet plan?

  18. david Says:

    xpnkfemmex,
Flexilis itself is free but it uses your phone’s data connection to backup your files and download the latest virus definitions. Depending on what type of mobile plan you have AT&T (or whoever your phone carrier is) may charge you for data use — its like any program for your Blackjack II; if it uses data (gets information off the internet) and you don’t have an unlimited data plan, your wireless carrier may charge you for any data usage that exceeds your data plan with them.

  19. Flexilis Says:

Thanks for fielding that one, David!

xpnkfemmex: David pretty much knocked it out of the park on that one, The software itself is free, but performs best and is designed for those who have data/unlimited data plans.

Tahrann: I’d give you my rating, but obviously we’re a bit biased ;-) Instead, headover to the forums section here at myblackjack2.com , and in the software area check out the Flexilis Mobile Security thread, where users have been discussing their thoughts on it.

We want to thank all of our testers who are doing rockin’ jobs testing this out, we really appreciate it! Give it a try, let us know what you think at support@flexilis.com , and be sure to tell your friends to sign up as well over at https://beta.flexilis.com :-)

Love what i see so far. Much better than dashwire. Love how you can select what you want to have backed up (contacts, documents, pics, music, etc…) instead of just haveing everything done at once. Also like the schedule feature with the backing up. From what Ive seen so far, very good product. I’m takeing dashwire off the phone.

  21. Flexilis Says:

    @luke6393:

Thanks for the great feedback! We appreciate the hard work testing the app!

  22. josh.kool Says:

I love them, but can someone tell me how to set it up so my phone will connect to my comp

  23. david Says:

josh kool- are you asking to for help connecting your blackjack 2 to your computer using activesync? Or does this have something to do with Flexilis?

  24. pdajunkie Says:

I was just wanting to know if anyone else was having a big effect on the battery or if there is an updated version that does not consume so much battery life. I have had the program for about 2 months now and when first started using it didnt seem to bad of an affect but then about month after having the program, the battery life went from about 2-3 days standby to less then half a day and the battery would be dead. Also the program seemed to be causing my phone to freeze up and be unresponsive. Task manager would have no programs running when I started noticing the issue with battery and freezing. I have had the program removed now for about week and half and my phone battery is back to the usual 2-3 day standby with my normal usage. Phone has not froze up since removed the program either.
Is there an update to resolve this problem or anyone else experiencing this also??

  25. Flexilis Says:
