MoDaCo No Data
Direct Download (Download Page)
The good people that brought us the infamous MoDaCo GPS Hack have done it again! They released another incredibly handy utility for all you Blackjack 2 users that don’t have unlimited data.
The MoDaCo No Data Utility allows you easily turn off your data connection so you don’t accidently use (especially while roaming!)
Note: You MUST unlockĀ your phone with the SDA Application unlocker to use this program — Application unlocking your phone with just the MoDaCo GPS Hack/Application unlocker will not allow No Data to run properly.

No Data installs an easy to use shortcut in your Start Menu named “No Data”. Big thanks to Paul and the gang at MoDaCo for this handy app and thanks to Zak for giving me the heads-up about it!

ive never been able to get this to work. i always get an error message that says “An unexpected error has occurred in NoData.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select details for more information. Error while writing to the registry key.”
i checked out a thread on modaco that says that you must turn the wireless off on the phone from wireless manager, toggle the connections to off, and then it will work once you resume connections. it tried this as well but it will not work.

This is nifty. I did some file move that stopped the internet from connecting that I probably won’t remember how to undo if I ever decide to get data. Hah!
August 8th, 2008 at 9:18 am
zman,
Do you get that error when you try to Install or Run the No Data program? I was able to install it on my Blackjack II without any problems and also run it without any problems. Maybe MoDaCo updated the program — might be worth trying to re-download/install it again and see… ?
August 8th, 2008 at 9:39 am
i get that error when i toggle the connections. the cab file installs just fine.ive tried this probably 5 o6 times in the last month and have never been able to get it to work.
August 8th, 2008 at 10:31 am
zman - very strange… Have you tried posting on the MoDaCo.com forums with your issue? Have you application unlocked your phone?
August 8th, 2008 at 10:42 am
i have not posted in modaco but i do know that others have had the same problem. like i said, they suggested toggleing the connections to off while the wireless services on the phone were turned off, and then it would block data connections once the wireless capabilities of the phone had been turned back on. i also remembering seeing that sometimes the problem was that no connection has been set up in the first place, but i dont know how that is possible for me when it always connects to the net if i accidently hit the internet button on my phone.
August 8th, 2008 at 11:38 am
i am in the same boat as zman on this one >.<

August 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm

August 8th, 2008 at 1:56 pm

Jsmooth, If youll be our guinea pig we might be able to help
You are running windows correct?
If so:
1) Download the SDA App Unlocker to your Windows XP/Vista computer. Unzip the SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip to your Desktop. You should have a file called “SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe” (icon looks like blue and red keys)
2) Connect your Blackjack II to your Windows XP/Vista computer via USB. Make sure your phone is connected to your computer (On your Windows XP/Vista computer go to “My Computer > Mobile Devices” and see if you can access the Mobile Devices folder (its icon is an Orange phone)).
3) Once you verified you can access your Blackjack II from your Windows XP/Vista computer, Double-click on the SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe icon.
4) Accept any security prompts. A small window will pop-up in the center of your screen - click the “Remove Lock” button.
5) A popup will appear that says “SDA Successfully unlocked. PLEASE REBOOT SDA NOW!” - Click OK.
6) Reboot your phone (hold the power button down for 5 seconds) the phone will turn off then turn it back on.
7) Try running “No Data” again and report back with your findings!

August 9th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Is anyone getting this to work besides me?? I dont understand how it can work for me and not for the rest of you… bmark, cruz - how did you two app unlock your phones?
August 9th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I used the MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker. Everything i have installed works perfectly except the no data.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
same here. i unlocked the phone with the modaco gps unlocker and now the no data program will not work. the program installs, but when i attempt to toggle i get error message: “an unexpected error has occured in nnodata.exe”

David was your phone unlocked w/ sda or modaco or both? itd be great if there were just a cab of the sda unlocker b/c id definitely try it out.
August 10th, 2008 at 11:09 am
zman, I am unlocked with both SDA and MoDaco. I as able to find another user that can use the MoDaCo No Data application and he unlocked his phone with SDA.
Everyone that is having problems running No Data - Can you please try unlocking your phone with SDA and then try No Data again? You can find instructions how to use the SDA Application Unlocker here.
August 10th, 2008 at 11:27 am
david was right. u need to have both of them downloaded… SDA and modaco…it works fo me now
August 10th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
is there any way you could post a cab version of the sda unlocker? again, i am running Mac so the exe file doesnt do it for me.
August 10th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
David is right. Download the SDA App Unlocker and it’ll work.
August 10th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
zman,
Unfortunately no - SDA Application Unlocker is a Windows XP/Vista application not a Windows Mobile application - so I cant make a CAB file for it

Worked great for me, quick 5 second dl and 1 min install and BINGO, thanks guys keep up the great work
August 11th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
well. it works now that i’ve installed the SDA unlocker. Thanks David!
August 11th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
It works now for me as well since I installed SDA unlocker. What is AT&T IMS? I figured media net is for internet browsing.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
does it use internet to actually use this program or when you disable the internet does it not work?
August 22nd, 2008 at 1:54 am
I have a question. I want to use Google maps or live search on my blackjack2. If I use this program to stop google maps from accessing data, can I still use the GPs with google, basically for free since it’s not accessing data? Are there any maps preloaded with the program already so I don’t have to have my data turned on? Or is the only way google maps works is with data and it can’t be run with it turned off?
August 22nd, 2008 at 9:48 am
hotstreak,
nope - Google Maps and Windows Live Search REQUIRE a data connection. you will not be able to use either if the MoDaCo GPS hack is enabled.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:45 pm
what are dialers?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:47 am
A dialer is software installed without your consent or knowledge that repeatedly dials long distance or 900 numbers. You saw the warning on the SDA unlocker right? I’ve never heard of dialer problems on cell phones (anyone else?). They typically infect desktop PCs with modems. Aren’t 900 numbers blocked by default on cell phones?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:49 am
Has anyone tried the no data app on the original blackjack? I just did on my wife’s phone… it only lists media net. AT&T IMS is not listed. Disabling media net also disables MMS. Anyway around this? (BTW works like a charm on my blackjack 2).
October 1st, 2008 at 10:08 am
I agree. I would like to be able to disable the access to the internet, but not to MMS. I have unlimitied texting, including MMS messaging, but not unlimited internet.
October 7th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
HEY! David The way i got it to work for me was installing BOTH sda and MoDaCo together
also i am able to disable media net and still recivie text messages
October 8th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Does this work with WM6.1 or do I need to app unlock because I would really like to disable the data feature while still using some sort of GPS nav. if possible
October 8th, 2008 at 9:58 am
I put the no data cab on my BJ2 w/ WM6.1 ran the cab on the phone and….now what? Sorry I’m new to this
October 8th, 2008 at 10:44 am
jrlosh, make sure you ran the SDA Application unlocker — after youve done that go to “All Programs” and run the “MoDacO No Data” and follow the on-screen directions.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
I’m kind of confused to this…Does this mean that I can have a GPS on my phone without using my cellular providers Internet Connection? I don’t have the unlimited plan for internet, so I really want to make sure that it won’t put a huge bill on my cellphone - please respond back soon!
November 20th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
MusicalGenocide,
GPS does NOT use a data connection. GPS is a direct connection to the GPS satellites, but remember - all GPS does it give you the location of the GPS device in latitude/longitude. It does NOT provide maps, pictures, graphics etc.
Generally GPS is most useful used in conjunction with a service that displays the GPS location on a map (Google Maps, Windows Live Search, Garmin XT, etc.)
If the Mapping service youre using in conjunction with the GPS requires data/maps/direction from an online source (like Google Maps and Windows Live Search) then that program will use the cellular data connection.
If youre using GPS in conjunction with a program that has all the maps/data offline (like Garmin XT) then you wont use a data connection.
GPS itself doesnt use your cellular data connection but the programs that use the GPS might.
Hope this helps a little.

If I toggle Media Net Off, does it stay off until I toggle it back on? Even if I power off/on the phone once a day?
And does this disable MMS? (Still kind of a noob, here)
December 27th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Could you also give us noobs a brief description of what each of these are for for? And what will be the result of toggle on/off for each. Thanks guys, for all your hard work and helpfulness.
