I am curious if it will be able to utilize features found here on the "Jack" like Garmin GPS, etc.

Interesting! This will add to the confusion around the Canadian BJII (AKA: Jack).. I guess for those that don't have a data plan the Wifi will come in handy around the house and hotspots.

I suspect the same software we run will work on this model.

Yes it will definitly be able to run the same software as it runs WM 6.1, Cool to see that it will be WM 6.5 compatible

i agree on the confusion it will cause. This does mean that a 6.5 standard edition is now expected (afaik only pro/touchscreen screenies have turned up) so maybe it can be hacked to run on the BJ2 (although it probably won't run well..)

Hello – I've had the new Jack for almost 24 hours. There are some nice improvements over my BJ2 like a better camera and faster processing. However I've been disappointed to find that some of the apps I was using on my BJ2 cannot be used on Jack. Facade, Google Mobile and PockeTwit will not load. Based on the error messages received, I Googled and found that this phone (and the Samsung Propel Pro) is using a tier-two prompt security module. I'm by far not a techincal person but from everything I've read this has made unlocking apps difficult. This also affects several GPS apps like Garmin and TomTom.
I am waiting and hoping someone will soon find a why to unlock this phone (I have to remind myself that it's only been a week). It's very frustrating to purchase a phone and not be able to add the apps I want to add.

Have you tried using the unlocking methods for the bj2 on the jack?

I just got the Jack 2 days ago. I'm going to thoroughly test all of our favorite apps (aside from the GPS apps) from the BJII and do a write up regarding compatability. Expect it to be posted by the end of the night tonight. I'm also going to check on the Voice Command Announcements via bluetooth issue and report on that.
Pukka, do you want the write up as a new thread, or should I just reply in this one?
BTW, I will be selling my BJ2. It will actually be a brand new unit. I'm doing a warranty exchange, and it will be unlocked. Includes external cradle with spare battery charger, extra OEM battery, USB cable, home charger.
I also have a used, but overall good condition Blackjack that I will be selling. Comes with USB cable and home charger.
If anyone is interested in either of the two, PM me. I'm up for any reasonable offer. If I don't hear anything within a couple of days or so, I'll just post them up on eBay.

I am going to wait til hacks come for the JACK. I have been keeping the BJII because the Garmin GPS, apps, hacks rather than keeping a BB curve and HTC G1

Wow, have tried 4 different tools and can't get this thing app unlocked. I hope we don't have to wait long for a "Jack" unlocker.

Yet again, Samsung has released a device that does not support announcements via Bluetooth for voice command. Not too happy about that.

If you want to create a detailed review of the jack then do so in a new thread, would probably make it easier for people to find. Up to you really, you have my consent to do w.e

As with others, can't wait for the app unlocker! Just got the phone yesterday, love it but hope all the apps that worked with my BJII can be installed!

I haven't actually tried to unlock myself but instead have been following an AT& T forum where someone is trying. Hope it's ok to post a link: http://forums.wireless.att.com…..amp;page=4.
I'm also following this thread and there may be hope: http://forum.xda-developers.co…..p?t=518701
I'm starting to get used to the phone and despite my initial frustration, I'll probably keep it. It's growing on me.

does it have the same type of charger port that the BJII has? i'm considering upgrading to either the Epix, or the Jack, and not having to go out and buy new portable chargers. how's the keyboard? i read on one fellow's review that they were spaced closer together, and were a little flatter(not sure on this last part).

Bear,
The ports are the same between the Jack and BlackJack II. The battery is different, so if you have any spares, they won't work with the Jack. The processor speed is phenomenal. A full boot comes up in a fraction of the time compared to the BJ2.
As far as the keyboard, I find it better than the BJ2. The keys are flush, but they are raised different. Easy to type without looking at the keypad within a week or so.
All in all, it's a spectacular phone. Once we get it app unlocked, I'll be completely satisfied. Worst case scenario, hopefully the upgrade to 6.5 will remove the locks just like the 6.1 upgrade did on the BJII.

Well, I'm officially a sell out. I'm returning the Jack. I got the Palm Treo Pro for a hell of a deal unlocked. It's my first PPC, so I hope I like it.
