How often do you guys tend to use your phone on the road? Do you think this is going to affect how you conduct business? It's become such a reflex for me to text on the road (harder since i got the iphone but still)

xymox,
Agreed – im not in California, but I know a lot (maybe 25-30%) of the visitors on the site are.
Granted you don't get any points on your license for talking on a cellphone while driving, but getting pulled over and fined $20/$50 a pop has got to suck.
I find it interesting the TEXTING is not technically illegal in California, only using a handheld device for VOICE communication.
Q: Does the new “hands-free” law allow drivers 18 and over to text message while driving?
A: The law does not specifically prohibit that, but an officer can pull over and issue a citation to a driver of any age if, in the officer’s opinion, the driver was distracted and not operating the vehicle safely. Sending text messages while driving is unsafe at any speed and is strongly discouraged
In my mind texting on the road i more dangerous than talking … ? no?

There is going to be new legislation coming out fairly soon to prohibit texting while driving. They were saying on the local news that texting was not as full-blown of a problem as it is now, and that legislators did not feel it was necessary to put it into the law.
For me personally, I don't think the cell phone necessarily causes too many problems. I have seen instances where a person was texting on one cell phone and talking on the other at the same time while driving, but in general I think that drivers will be distracted either way. I can't count how many people WITHOUT cell phones that drive like maniacs, but I guess this is one way for the government to feel that they are in control of it.

I always use a BT headset when driving. It's not that I'm a safety nut, I just hate holding the phone up to my ear while driving…Guess I'm just lazy that way.
Speaking of unsafe driving while using a cell phone, check out this nutjob:

Attention, that site may not be entirely safe to view at work…
