Sweet man…I finally got it to work and I've played with it all day. I'm such a nerd, I even set up directions to go to work. I was kinda paranoid about being charged “data” minutes from Tmobile, so i frantacially called customer care and asked about my bill. As of yet, NO DATA minutes being used. To overcome my paranoia, I must ask you will I be charged anything?
Also, is there any way I can get maps of other countries other than countries in North America? Can't even get maps from Mexico on the torrent provided.
-Thanks

You will not be charged for using Garmin XT.
GPS = is free, it does not use your data connection. your GPS unit communicates directly with the GPS Satellites that have nothing to do with your Wireless service.
GarminXT = all the maps are on your phone, there is nothing to download, thus no data connection.
You can test this buy going to Wireless Manager and setting “Phone” to “Off” .. Garmin XT should still work even though all cellular (the stuff you pay for) communication has been terminated.

I followed the directions to the Europe maps, but the file MapInstall never appeared on my desktop. Any suggestions? I got the N. America maps to work flawlessly. Thank you so much for putting this online for us!

s43gh3n, i initially had the same problem. i downloaded the torent on my mac, saved it to a flash drive, and then tried to unzip the folder without saving it to my computer. my suggestion is, if you saved the zipped file to something other than ur computers hard drive, save it to the hard drive! and if you have, make sure the file is unzipped before continuing on.

To answer s43gh3n questions, I remember I also ran into this problem the first time trying too install it, I think the fix was just to unzip the file to somewhere on your hard drive.

Lamp Shade, I read that you can just install MapInstall from the garmin (click here)
You then just follow the same instructions.

Can anybody help me out? I've followed the installation instructions step by step and when I start up Garmin is just says “Scanning Bluetooth” but I cannot get it to connect to the GPS. I know that other members have had this problem. Has anybody come up with a solution yet?

Hey are you sure you got the Unit ID code copied correctly, you must get it exactly, ive done this hack to other bj2's and if i wrote down the code or copied it wrong the hack wouldnt work, make sure you copy or unit id from settings–>>about menu, in Garmin Mobile xt, then follow my instructions to copying it to “sw.unl”

You can copy all your old memory card files to your new memory card and should be able to not redo the hack, but you must follow these instructions
- Format New memory card
- Go to Folder options( on your computer )—>>click “Show hidden files and folder” —–>>also click “hide protected operating system files”
- Now go to your old memory card, copy entire memory card (including the faded icons)
- Paste into new memory card overwriting everything.
Ive never done this but I have a feeling it should work…if not then you probably need to reinstall the hack.

i have tried twice to install this. i did a master reset of my phone last night and started over. i am confused, i t looks like it should work, but i cannot get gps location. i have several questions:
-1-sounds stupid but, how do i make sure gps is turned on?
-2-does bluetooth have to be enabled?
-3-in the instructions, #2 says: “Open the installation folder, the folder where you installed the program 1 minute ago, and open the folder “MapSource” within that. Create a shortcut of the file “MapSource.exe” in your desktop.”
does that mean copy to desktop or to the device thru active sync?
i have more questions, but i will let these be answered first. sorry to be such a tard on this, but i like free stuff. and i've pulled out my hair on the left side of my head. thanks in advance.

Hey Krenzzblkjk2
to answer yor questions
1. GPS will be enabled automatically once the programs wants to start running it and will be closed after the program stops using it
2. No Bluetooth does not have to be enabled, bluetooth has nothing to do with the GPS. Make sure when you get your Unit ID (CARD ID from your phones garmin–settings—>about menu), make sure you copied it correctly, as this is what unlocks the program.
3. #2 is the install is referring to your computer desktop “Not” your phone.
Please feel free to ask as many questions as you would like.
