I've been having some issues my self after the install. When I initially installed the older version I could get a signal and the GPS would work for about 30 minutes then it would lose the signal and give me the "quesp.exe" error. If I turned my phone off then back on it would work again for about another 30 minutes then the same thing would happen. I removed the program and then reinstalled it and upgraded to the newest version but now I cannot get a signal at all, ever. It says its "scanning bluetooth" and "scanning attached" but then tells me it can't get a GPS signal.
I thought I read somewhere with the new version it uses "intermediate drivers" and not the com4 port or something, or something has to be changed to "intermediate drivers" but I can't find that anywhere, could that be my problem if so how do I change it to intermediate drivers? Thanks in advance for any help
Sounds like you need the regenerate the codes, or reinstall the Modaco GPS hack…Give that a try and see what happens??

Hey guys thanks to everyone for their input and help on this topic and especially pukka for the tutorial. I followed it and was able to get my gps to work. However, I'm now trying to update with the new like on the top of page 1. Am i simply supposed to download, unzip and run? Because when I try this, it brings up a Garmin setup screen and begins installing into my storage card, only to fail because of some .dll error any help is appreciated thanks

I don't remember seeing this question asked… Is there anyway to update the POI's? ie: new Starbucks opening all the time in new areas, new theatres, new restaurants, ect.

What version OS are you running on your BJ? 6.0 or 6.1. Seems like some have issues with 6.1 and the latest version of Garmin. At least I think thats the conclusion I have come to. Hard to keep track through 25 pages. My attention span wanders frequently.
6.1 and i believe i used the older version of garmin(4.x.x.x.x) i think.i never had any issues just the time to get every thing to work. the torrent was one and them loading the maps took some time. all in all this is a great download and works great. pukka and everyone else involved in this are greatly appreciated..

I'd first like to thank all the people that have helped out on this, it's truly an amazing piece of work and it's going to be awesome… once I get it up and running.
I've made sure to follow all of the steps perfectly, and despite it I had the bars, but could never acquire a satellite. Delving into the pages and pages of replies in the topic I found a solution to this is to update the software, which I did.
Now it starts up fine, I have 5 bars on the top left of my Garmin Mobile XT interface that when I access says I'm using the GPS Intermediate Driver as it's supposed to, yet I can still never acquire satellites. It's not my location, and I have the GPS unlock hack (the name escapes me at the moment) as well as upgraded to 6.1. In addition I've waited for over half an hour hoping that it was simply taking a lot of time.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything just to make sure it wasn't error on my part, and it seems that it's not. Everything is working perfectly fine as far as I can tell, except it refuses to find a satellite.
Any help on this matter will be more than appreciated, and thank you for your time in this matter.

Summary: After upgrading from XT4 to XT5 I got the searching for bluetooth problem.
Background: Blackjack II Cingular. It came with wm 6 and I updated it to 6.1. The installed the Garmin XT 4 and 2008 maps without Modaco hack. After awhile I reviewed this forum for success with the Garmin XT 5 update and since it was working for some people I tried it.
Current day: Downloaded the XT update from Garmin website and installed it directly on the phone through USB. Got the splash screen to enter reg code; buy; or start trial. Oh no! Working past this screen I got the searching for bluetooth.
Troubleshooting: Opened up the notes from original install and generated new keys based on the Unit ID obtained through mapsource utilities. That didn't work. Install Modaco. That didn't work. By the way, the chip itself was changed to read-only so I had to use a chip reader to copy the keys over and also unset the readonly attribute on the folder.
Resolution: Noticed a post that indicated the tools>settings>About box should include something about unlocked. Mine doesn't say this but I did notice that the unit ID is DIFFERENT than reported through Mapsource software. Regenerated new keys with this ID and the software worked. Happy camper.
Future: I suggest changing the instruction set to use the device id for generating keys.

Hi DougM and others:
For those of you that can't get GPS bars, I use Google Earth as another way to check basic GPS function. GPS function doesn't work there, then it won't work with the Garmin either and you know you have to get that going and it would be random or lucky if any of the posters could help you out (problem is with the basic device, not install of G XT). If you get google Earth to work with GPS but G XT doesn't, then the problem is isolated somewhere to the G XT setup.
Note: GE does use many kb from data plan for map images. To save some bytes, download the program to your phone through the USB cable.

Thanks Blackfeet,
That is the first bit of useful help I have received. I was coming to the same conclusion and was wonder what the best way to test and see if the GPS receiver was working, now I know. Can I just go to Google Earth from my phone without downloading the program just to test? If so how?
Thanks,
DougM

If you have 5 bars at the top of the screen I dont see why the gps wouldnt work…I would just leave it there for about and hour to see if they aquire, sometimes it does take a while

Well I don't believe it, I finally got it working after a couple of weeks of trying. I removed and reinstalled the hack yet again, that would have been at least 4 or 5 times, anyway I went to try what pukka suggested and leave it on for an hour and after a minute or 2, two red bars came up and then GREEN ones, sweet it now works. Now I am afraid to upgrade to the new maps, maybe I will jsut enjoy it for awhile. I also have Microsoft Voice Command working perfectly even from my Jawbones BT headset so all is well.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
DougM

Finally got it to work. I read the info & I said, piece of cake. I can do this puppy since I have in the past. I had 3 brews & 4 tacos while working on this & then thought it was the alcohol making me do this wrong.
When I completed everything, all I would get was Bluetooth Scanning for GPS. I must have done the process 3 times. Finally while reading everything here, I noticed pukka mention a process I had not tried. I uninstalled Garmin from phone. I powered off phone. I removed memory card. I then turned the phone on. I inserted memory card, re-installed Garmin. I ran it, & it worked.
Also, I recommend to copy the files to the desktop & then ensure that there is no space nor enter action after the last character. Once saved & the cursor stops at the end of the last character of the codes in the files. Copy the files over to the memory card. I used the memory card reader after trying it multiple times via the cable. I would say it is more effective this way in preserving the files. Sounds like something was happening when copying the files via the data cable to BJ2.
That is my peace.

I have a question and I am sure it's probably an easy fix but here it goes.
I have the BJ2, WM 6.1 and everything is installed an running including the Garmin update under the basemap. When I try installeng a detailed map with MapInstall or MapSource it asks me if I am sure I want to install the maps in demo mode. Any clue why this is?
Thanks.
