MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker

MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker

Direct Download (Download Page)

Allow any program (Google Maps, Windows Live Search, Garmin Mobile XT, etc.) to access your Blackjack 2’s built in GPS hardware via COM 4. Don’t forget to restart your phone after installing the CAB.

The MoDaCo GPS Hack ALSO application unlocks your Blackjack 2 — This is a MUST HAVE hack. Thanks to the good people at MoDaCo for creating this brilliant hack.

Motorola Q9 users, use the modified hack to activate your GPS software on COM 5 or COM 3 (to increase battery life).

How to tell if the hack has been installed:

The MoDACo GPS hack will not install a Shortcut in your Start menu anywhere so you can check if you’ve installed it. To see if it has been installed:

  1. Start > Settings > Remove Programs
  2. Look for “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator”
  3. If it is listed, the hack is installed and your phone is application unlocked

Concerning data usage with GPS:

Enabling and using the GPS hardware in your Blackjack 2 (or Motorola Q9) does NOT directly impact data usage. The GPS hardware in the phone communicates directly with the GPS satellites and does NOT use the mobile carrier’s data connection. You can communicate with the GPS satellites and get your exact position without having any sort of data plan.

The catch is if you want to use GPS in conjunction with an online mapping service (Google Maps, Windows Live Search, etc.), THOSE services themselves require and use a mobile data connection. When using Google Maps/Windows Live Search in conjunction with GPS, your Smartphone will grab your location from the GPS satellites (not-using a data connection) and then contact Google Maps servers (USING a data connection) to download the map images/info. The map images downloaded from the online mapping service WILL impact data usage.

If you have a program like Garmin XT, Tom tom, etc. that have maps that installed to your Smartphone, then using GPS will NOT impact your data usage.

Hope this makes sense!

i dont think this is working. i did restart it too. I cant do any hacks such as deleting files that would otherwise be denied because they are still denied. I tried the SDA one as well

  2. david Says:

    chipw,
After unlocking your Blackjack II with the SDA Application Unlocker, did SDA Application Unlocker report back stating that your Blackjack II had been unlocked?

  3. chipw Says:

Yes, it did. Also, i can tell it is not GPS unlocked either because google maps is still not working with my GPS receiver.

  4. gergana Says:

When i installed this, it told me it was for an older version of windows mobile. im not exactly sure if i did it right, because somehow at&t telenav opened…. i hope i didnt subscribe to it!

  5. ccc Says:

    hi
i actually found that in my bjII, the installation of modaco, gmap and garmin xt screwed up my gps. i have to do a master reset to clean it up. after the reset i simply install the garmin xt and it works right away!! therefore, i am convinced that the modaco hack is not necessary to unlock the gps. actually, the gps was probably never locked in the first place.

  6. dpearce Says:

ok…some one explain this to me like im a 2 year old…I clicked on the “direct download” link…it pulls up a screen that says to open it with Winzip or Save it to disk…so I clicked open with Winzip and I get a box that says hey…winzip isnt free pay us $29.99…so I went back and clicked save to disk…it pops up in my download box..I click open….get the same winzip box…so I clicked on use evaluation version…now I have a Winzip box and two files…one says Smartp 1.0, the other says setup.xml..I drug both files to my desktop….I opened active sync…synced…nothing…what am I not doing right? I know nothing about cab files…help!

  7. david Says:

    dpearce,

Check out “Tips & Tricks” > “How to Install a Cab File” .. That should clear everything up for you.

  8. dpearce Says:

sadly, david…I have that printed out and sitting in front of me…how do I get the cab file on my computer so I CAN install it?? I don’t understand this zip file crap!! :(

  9. dpearce Says:

I feel like I must have it on my computer by now…I can find 3 WinZip files named Modacoyabayaba.zip, but then what….I am out for tonight will log on tomorrow…thanks!

  10. david Says:

    dpearce,

To download the CAB file to your computer: Right-click the “Direct Download” Link and choose “Save As”, and save the CAB file to your computer. The CAB file is recognized by WinZIP and will have a zip file icon, but it is NOT a zip and DO NOT unzip it. Copy the CAB file to your Blackjack II using activesync.

It may be easier for you to goto this site on your Blackjack II using PockeIE and downloading the MoDaCo CAB file directly to your phone.

  11. dpearce Says:

ok david, I have the file on my computer. When I open Active Sync it syncs, then I click explore and I find the file, when I click it I get that Winzip screen that says it isn’t free. How do I get the CAB file to copy to active sync?? It can’t be this hard….and I am not THAT computer iliterate!! :(

  12. dpearce Says:

Ok….I have it on the phone now…I just downloaded it on the phone. I go to Applications – File Explorer – and clicked on the file…it said it installed sucessfully. I shut the phone off and restarted it. I turned it back on and went to Applications….it isn’t there. What am I not doing right now?!?

  13. david Says:

    dpearce,

Glad to hear you were able to get the CAB file to your phone and install it. After installing the MoDaCo GPS hack, it will NOT be listed under Applications (or anywhere in the Start Menu). It is a hack, not an application persay. If you would like to verify that its been installed, Go to: Start > Settings > Remove Programs and make sure “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator” is listed (don’t remove it, just make sure its listed)

    Hope this helps

  14. dpearce Says:

yep! It’s there and I downloaded the ringtone hack! Love it!! Would it pose a problem for me to download that LEDAlert as well?? Also – on my screen at the top where the 3G, battery life, bars, etc. symbols are, mine are GREY, making it very hard to read…how can I change those to white or some other BRIGHTER color?? Thanks for all your help!

  15. petaylo Says:

I down loaded the gps hack on my bj2 and seems to work just fine….my question is how do I see and know if my phone is unlocked? can’t find windows in active syn………thanks…

  16. betarbya Says:

    Hi,

I’ve done the installation of the MoDaCo hack as well as the Google Maps.

Now the question is that how do I know I am not using my service provider’s wireless data plan and getting charged, but am using the ACTUAL gps?

    Thank you.

  17. david Says:

    betarbya,

I’ve added to the post addressing your concerns of GPS usage effecting your data plan usage.

    Hope this clears things up!

  18. grampanicko Says:

hey i just signed up for your site and I tried to download you GPS hack I think I did it successfully but Im not sure when I am on my computer and I look under my mobile device in file management I can see the CAB file but when I try to look on my phone to find it I cant. So if its not showing up on my phone is it actually installed it didnt even ask me to install it and when I go to remove programs its not listed I use Vista at home and the CAB file is listed under Documents on Smartphone

  19. grampanicko Says:

never mind I just checked google maps and its working I just cant see the traffic info? any ideas why i enabled it to let me see and it just says unavailable

  20. betarbya Says:

    Hey David,

I’ve installed Tomtom Navigator 6, cracked it as well; however, in the “GPS Configuration” I don’t know which one to choose from the list available:

    - Tomtom Bluetooth GPS receiver
    - Tomtom Wired GPS receiver
    - Other bluetooth GPS receiver
    - Other NMEA GPS receiver

For the last two you have to choose a COM from the list, I don’t know which one to choose, I tried all, none work.

Oh and also I am aware of having bluetooth turned ON in order to activate the GPS device.

Any sort of help will be appreciated!!!

    Thank you.

  21. crackednn Says:

How do I know if it has been successfully unlocked?

I transferred the cab via activesnyc, opened/installed the cab and it said something about how it might not work properly because it was designed for a different version of microsoft mobile.

I did the “Remove Programs” trick you said earlier to someone else, and its definitely there under my programs… But is it working?

  22. gznuttz Says:

First off, thank you David for the great hacks!!!
So far, I have downloaded the MoDaCo GPS hack, BB theme, SMS bubbles and max ringtone to 25mb. Everything seems to work fine, but I noticed that under “Power Management” my main battery meter bar is missing although charged. Has ne1 notice this?

  23. david Says:

    gznuttz,

My battery meter is showing under power managerment and I have just about every hack on this site installed on my Blackjack II. Gznuttz, you have a Blackjack II correct?

I have no idea why/how the battery meter could disappear from your Power Management menu. Have you tried powering off/on your phone?

  24. gznuttz Says:

Yes, I have a Blackjack 2. I powered on and off several times, charged with wall adapter and via usb to no avail–purple meter still missing. Would it be possible if I could UNINSTALL all the hacks via “remove programs” and REINSTALL without messing up my BJ2? Other thoughts? THANKS!

  25. david Says:

    gznuttz,
Try changing your theme back to one of the original themes that came with your phone.

  26. david Says:

    gznuttz,

It looks like the blackberry theme’s color scheme is hiding the power bar (the foreground and background colors are teh same) .. i will change this and update the theme tonight.

sorry to scare you like that :)

  27. gznuttz Says:

You are definitely right! The theme’s color is hiding the power bar. What I did was kept the “Brianberry Bold v1″ as my theme and change the color scheme to “Samsung Blue” instead of “default.”
It looks like any color scheme will work but the “default” color. Thanks again!!!

  28. eightcounts Says:

I’ve tried to install the GPS hack both on my storage card and my BJ2, but get the following error message during the install: “Install was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.” ne1 been able to resolve this issue? Thx.

  29. MalcomD Says:

I have the SGH- i616 and i am with fido in Canada. When i tried to install MoDaCo Unlocker on my phone I get a msg sayin that installation was unsuccessful because it does not have sufficient system permission. Can anyone can help me……. Thankx

  30. david Says:

    Malcom,

I have no experience with the SGH-i616 — have you tried using the SDA Application Unlocker tool?

  31. MalcomD Says:

I tried using the SDA app but again i get a msg sayin the “SDA is not a valid windows CE app…” I have hear that you can get a phone de-branded what does this mean and would it mess up the phone…

  32. david Says:

    Malcom,

It sounds as if you are trying to run SDA Application Unlocker directly from your Blackjack 2 … You have to run SDA Application Unlocker on your Windows computer while your Blackjack 2 is connected to it via USB/ActiveSync.

  33. MalcomD Says:

Thanks buddy ur da best……I was tryin to install it on the phone but when i tried it ur way it worked….what r some good GPS apps that don’t need a data plan and where can i get them…..
And once again thanks ur site is very helpful… keep up da good work….

  34. katatonia Says:

    Hi David,
I still am waiting to get BJ2 from Fido (Canadian Provider). I just wanted to do my homework in advance to unlock the GPS. As MalcomD mentioned above, his fido bj2 is unable to work with modaco mod. We know that modaco hack does 2 functions
    1- application unlock
2- unlock and define the COM for gps so that i can use Garmin XT.

What if ModAco doesnt work like it did not for MalcomD? I will have to use SDA app? What will SDA app do? application unlock my bj2? How would it define the COM port for my bj2 so that I can use Garmin XT, which Modaco hack does automatically?

I would be VERY grateful for yar help.

  35. katatonia Says:

betarbya: where did you get the Tom Tom navigator 6 from? Did you buy it? If yes then why did you need to crack it?

  36. MalcomD Says:

Katatonia: Once you use the SDA app to unlock ur phone You will be able to install the Modaco app. It worked for me. By the way where did you get the garmin XT and let me know if u get it to work, cause I had a copy but i couldn’t get it installed…..

  37. katatonia Says:

Hi MalcomD: I am still in the process of getting GarminXT. As soon as I do i will let ya know. Thanks for the suggestions. I just got my bj2 and trying to play around. But it does not detect my 1 gb micro sd card. Did Fido put a restriction on that? ???

  38. katatonia Says:

updatE: I was able to use my microsd card. i realized that I had put a password on it while I was using my nokia e65. so i removed it from e65 and bingo, it worked on bj2. phew

Malcolm: I have a question. I cannot find Telenav anywhere. I was told that I have to download it via mobile internet? is that true? Can I unlock my gps without downloading telenav?

  39. katatonia Says:

sorry for hijacking the comment box, malcolm, did you get any memory card in the fido box?

  40. Nick26 Says:

i dont know if we are still up to date here but,
what exacually does the SDA app do? i used to to unlock my phone so i could finally install the Modaco app. What Now? does this SDA app stay on my phone or can it be taken off?

  41. david Says:

    nick,

SDA Application unlocker is an app hat you run in Windows (NOT ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE) that connects to your mobile phone via ActiveSync and Application Unlocks your phone. Application unlocking your phone means certain built in security measures on your phone are removed; removing the security measures will allow you to modify certain previously-restricted files, change previously-restricted registry keys, etc.
you dot NOT need to application unlock your phone to install MoDaCo GPS Hack… MoDaCo GPS Hack will Application unlock your phone for you.

  42. Nick26 Says:

oh ook, thanks for clearing that up for me,
great job with everything on the site!

  43. slugshot_90 Says:

i did the modaco gps hack. does that mean if i use google maps gps i wont be charged for anyhing

  44. RamanHeera Says:

how do you start to use this do you go to do more and use your telenav gps i already installed it

  45. david Says:

    Raman,

I suggest you use it with GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search.. I believe you will have to pay if you want to you TeleNav.

  46. RamanHeera Says:

So i downloaded and installed google maps and MoDaCo GPS Hack then if i use google maps does it still use data?

  47. david Says:

    slugshot,

“i did the modaco gps hack. does that mean if i use google maps gps i wont be charged for anyhing” .. NO! If you do not have unlimited data you will be charged for using Google Maps with the unlocked GPS. All the MoDaCo GPS hack does is allow other programs (besides TeleNav) to use the GPS unit in your phone. GoogleMaps still has to download its map files to your phone using your phone’s data connection.

  48. murdoc Says:

Easy as pie. Thank you! A quick question though: I was prompted by my device that this was designed for an older version of Windows Mobile.

I have Windows Mobile 6 on my newly purchased BJII, is that going to be a problem?

  49. david Says:

    murdoc,

Nope – thats fine. The hack’s installer was packaged for WM5 but it will work just fine on WM6 (everyone with a Blackjack II is using WM6 or higher). You can ignore that warning message.

  50. murdoc Says:

    Great! Thanks.

  51. mylucky5858 Says:

Someone please help me…..i did it up to this point Go to: Start > Settings > Remove Programs and make sure “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator” is listed (don’t remove it, just make sure its listed). I see it, but it’s not working for me….like what am i suppose to do to get it to work??

can someone walk me through it step by step….i’m not really familiar w/ this phone. I got it unlocked, but just can’t get the GPS to work. Please Help!! Thank you!

  52. david Says:

    mylucky,
What Mapping application are you trying to use with GPS? I suggest you try GoogleMaps.

  53. mylucky5858 Says:

Yes i’m trying to use GPS….I download everything you ask, but it still isn’t working. I do see the file on remove programs and that’s it. Can someone walk me through it again. What else am i suppose to do?? How do i download the cab file?? i’m read the instruction, and i’m still not understanding it. I’m very new at this phone. So please explain more clearly.

    Thank you so much.

  54. okmft Says:

Hi, everyone. I am new here, but this site has been amazingly helpful to me, so I wanted to give back a little.

This hack is amazing, and works great with Google Maps (just download and run this right on your Blackjack, or download it to your desktop, explore your device via Activesync, and copy it to your device and run it on your Blackjack. It will work!

***But now for the good stuff:*** Want to use your Blackjack II just like a traditional GPS unit? (i.e. NO data plan or even cell coverage required, a visual trail or track of where you have been, and speed/mileage/altitude/time travelled, and LAT/LON data!!!…just like a GPS unit for hiking, biking, or geocaching.) Well, as Barack Obama says, “Yes We Can!”

After unlocking your GPS with the hack on this site, go to http://www.smartphone-freeware.com and download NoniGPSPlot. (Tip: You MUST go to advanced settings and set the software to read the GPS data on *** COM4 *** or this software will not work.)

The software was written by a Frenchman who didi a pretty good job (all the functionality you need is there!), but it is a little hard to navigate at first (I will post some of my favorite settings if anyone is interested), and the speeds and distances are metric. I don’t care, I am just grateful for the software.

So now we can use our Blackjack II’s just like traditional handheld GPS units, even if we are far from a cell signal. This feature can come in handy when hiking or camping, or maybe even save your life in the wilderness someday.

    Best wishes to all,
    - okmft

  55. Sosodef1 Says:

I downloaded the hack, and it seems to be installed. But when I try to get my location using Live Search, it goes through the process like it’s trying to find my location (i.e Getting position…) then it seems to just timeout and I get the message “Sorry, the GPS connection has been lost. Would you like to reconnect?” A never ending loop, and yes I have set the “Settings” in Live Search to use ‘GPS Com4′. Any suggestion?

  56. nasty2daj Says:

    Hi guys,

I just bought my bjII last night and i’m trying to figure out how to install this hack.
I did like someone said, Check out “Tips & Tricks” > “How to Install a Cab File” .. That should clear everything up for you.
once i try to install it tells me :installation was unsuccesssfu. the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions….

    How can I by-pass that ?

    thanks

  57. nasty2daj Says:

    http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=151

if you have the same issue as I did, just install the software form the link.

  58. zlotm8938 Says:

ok, i have tried using the modaco crack 3 times now with no success. I’m no stranger to loading and installing CAB files. The install runs smooth until the end when it says that the program was meant for a previous version of Windows Mobile. When i use Google maps, the my locations thing works fine, but when i tell it to use com4 it tells me that the GPS device cannot be located. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  59. okmft Says:

weird…worked for me on the first try with GoogleMaps and Noni GPS, although it took a long time to find the sattelites the first time I used it.. (I have a new Blackjack II.) Let me think this through and I will see if I have any suggestions.

    Best wishes, okmft

  60. okmft Says:

one comment: after instaling the GPS hack, Google Maps worked fine with using the Windows-managed GPS settings (under GoogleMaps settings, leave them at the default Windows settings; you *do not* need to change them to COM 4). If you install NoniGPS, you have to do it in that program’s settings, however (and that is slightly tricky, but can be done with a little bit of messing around).

  61. gortok Says:

I found that Google maps would only work for me with the COM4 and “14400″ settings…
But alas…I started all over and now use LiveSearch, it initializes the GPS much quicker than Google (for me anyway).

I wonder, though, how much power does it use?

If I leave it running/scanning satellites, does it kill my battery? Will it overheat?

  62. david Says:

    gortok,

In my experience using GPS does drain your battery a little faster than normal usage (or maybe its just that im using ti with GoogleMaps/Windows Live Search which use the data connection which drains the battery more quickly). That being said, its not going to burn through a full charge in 60 mins of use.

Using GPS will NOT cause your phone/battery to overheat.

  63. joshfarted Says:

hi, i got a question (dunno if its been asked or not)

what does the modaco GPS hack actually DO (aside from the app unlocker)

like, i can do everything with my GPS that i did before i installed it.

is there something im not seeing that is SUPER cool?

  64. david Says:

    josh,
Nope – nothing Super cool besides allowing applications to access the GPS Hardware on COM 4 (if GoogleMaps/Windows Live Search/etc could access your GPS prior to the hack then the hack isnt going to add value in this regard). The GPS hack also application unlocks your phone which allows you to modify restricted files/folders on your phone.

  65. cgroll Says:

Can anyone verify that this actually works? I have installed it 3 times in the past, each time thinking that I could get it to work THIS time. However, it has always managed to not work and subsequently on 2 occasions force me to hard reset the unit.

Since there are so many questions about it, (64 responses at this point) maybe what would be best is a step by step formula for installing it, running it, and then getting it to work with Google Maps or Windows LiveSearch.

  66. david Says:

    cgroll,
This hack does work (thought ive seen posts like yours where users can’t get it to work) .. i would really like to know if the Blackjack II’s that can’t use this hack can use the GPS with the built-in Telenav software (which costs $) ..

  67. Fibronet Says:

    Hi david,

I am new to this site. I just purchased the I616 from Fido. I have unlocked the phone for installing applications and now I installed the Modaco gps hack. I am trying a test program from charcross ltd that will test the com port to see if it is working and get a gps position. it is called gps test. the problem is that it originally stated when starting up the program and configuring it “Gps Starting Up” but it stays on this for 10 to 15 mnutes and does not get a location.. i tried the program called co-pilot a hack and it tries to locate a gps setting but also cannot find it.

How do i know if the hack workedand the gps is set for com4. i really would like to use this phone with the gps. i had an Ipaq 6955 before with gps and I am still using it but would like to use only 1 phone.

    Thanks

    Fibronet

P.S. I even hard reset the phone last night to just try and setup the gps only before loading any applications and notning.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  68. Fibronet Says:

    Hi,

Ok I finally got the GPS working by hard resetting the phone and going step by step.
I have though 1 question. Is there any updates to this version (new maps, new updates to the software) ?
is there text to speech available ?

    Fibronet

  69. david Says:

Fibronet, Great to hear you got it working!! Can you describe the exact steps you took after doing a factory reset of the phone?

As for updates Im not sure what you mean — if you use the GPS Hack in conjunction with GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search, all the maps are dynamic (stored on Google’s or MS’s servers, so you are ALWAYS using the latest maps they have available) .. Neither GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search support voice recognition.

  70. Fibronet Says:

    David,

I hard reset the phone. then I did the unlock for permissions to load software using SDA Application unlock. the I did the modaco GPS Hack. then I went to download the garmin xt mobile software and followed you instructions. then happiness set in and everything is working perfectly. I even went to the url link at the end of the instructions and updated the software to the latest maps and program.

I am looking for text to speech on the garmin.

does anyone have any knowledge on Co-Pilot ?

  72. bigfanofmj Says:

    Hello all –
I am a cheapskate and would like to know what the most cost effective way to use my BJ2 GPS is… I downloaded google maps thiniking that it was a one time data transfer (to get the program) but soon found out with the arrival of my bill that it charges me to use it. How do I go about getting the Garmin program? Will I have to pay for that? I just want a program that does not use data transfer and simply communicates with the satellites themselves.
    Please help!
    Thank you!!!

  73. david Says:

bigfan, sorry to hear about that :( There is a “Data Usage” section at the bottom of the GPS Hack posts that talks about GoogleMaps/MS Live Search’s data usage :T ..

Garmin XT is a commercial app so you’d have to pay for it.. you can probably buy it from garmin.com or handango.com .. You might ask around in the forums if there is someplace you can get it cheaper…. ?

Garmin XT would be the program to use if you only want to us GPS and use ZERO data connection. Also – checkout the “MoDaCo No Data” utility in the Utilities .. it should help prevent this sort of thing (using data unawares) from happening in the future.

  74. SmartAssPhone Says:

Hey all – Just one (perhaps obvious) question: I got Windows Live Seach shortly after getting My BlackJack II (My 1st SmartPhone, thus the lame userID – Anyway, My phone must have had GPS unlocked by AT&T, because Windows Live Search uses “GPS Intermediate driver” with no com port listed -just fine! – any com port I try renders it useless. Will Garmin / Google Maps & other work without the hack or do they (and the other apps mentioned here) REQUIRE you use Com4 or another static com port? I don’t want to apply the hack if it’s unnecessary. What do you think David/everyone?

  75. david Says:

    SmartAssPhone,

You should not have to use the MoDaCo GPS Hack for Google Maps or Garmin XT if you can use Windows Live Search with the GPS Intermediate Driver. If you want to Application Unlock your phone I would use the SDA App Unlocker since that doesn’t do anything with your GPS settings (I’d hate to have the MoDaCo GPS Hack mess up your ability to access the GPS HW if its currently working .. i dont think it would, but why chance it, ya know?)

  77. david Says:

genernkris – you are unzipping the CAB file and copying the contents of the CAB file to your phone. Don’t do this. Right Click on the download link above and select “Save As” .. Read the post in Tips & Tricks on “How to install a CAB file”.

I showed my brother this program and he wanted it for his ATT Tilt, but it doesn’t exactly work. I’m specifically refering to the Garmin XT that you can download after you unlock it. Does anyone know if it can actually work?

  81. david Says:

katrina, No – installing the modaco GPS hack will not disable your unlimited text messaging. This hack doesn’t change any of the service plans youve established with your carrier.

  82. mzmanda Says:

I dont understand how to load it onto my phone in the first place :(

  83. vishal Says:

so what does this hack do, i mean do you get free internet and stuff or what?
    can someone please tell me?
    in good detail if possible

  84. vishal Says:

    i installed this program
and it say the name on remove programs
    and i restated it
and my live search is still not working

  85. wjmeyer Says:

Help, when I install the MoDaCo hack, I lose my data connection in my new Blackjack 2. After I uninstall it, the 3G data connection is back. What to do???

  86. Ryan805 Says:

its not working i downloaded it and it apears when i look in active sync but i go in to my phone in remove programs and its no there what am i doing wrong

  87. Ryan805 Says:

also do i download it from my phone or pc just making sure because i done it both ways gps wont work

  88. smakis Says:

Google Maps and GPS worked seamlessly without downloading the Modaco Hack to unlock GPS with Windows 6.1

  89. buffmann19 Says:

OK so after playing around for a week i can’t get it to work. I find the program in my applications when i go to the remove applications area. I have 2 seperate GPS software programs Garmin XT mobile and GPSVP both cannot access the GPS… GPSVP says that there is no connection to the GPS and Garmin XT mobile is searching for the GPS constantly not finding it (it also had a hard time accessing my bluetooth) I believe that the GPS is still not unlocked. Is there anything else you think to unlock it? I have installed several of the other “hacks” with no problems, its not that i dont understand what you are talking about I just feel that I am having hardware problems with the GPS.

  90. wjmeyer Says:

Yea, I got it to work with Google maps and Live Search (after setting to Com 4). It’s easy to test, just press Menu while in Live Search or Google Maps and choose to “Center on GPS”, it takes a few minutes and you might have to be outside so it can “see” the satellite(s).
It just took a second try at installation as nothing works for me the first time! I was using Google Gears, but now I can uninstall that as GPS is better. Great hack, thanks.

  91. buffmann19 Says:

forget i figured it out. If you would like to know my problem when i used the unit ID i used 1.1.2.158 or whatever finding the numbers through the device, whereas i had to go into the garmin file itself and settings then about and got the #’s for the real unit ID and now i have the amazing GPS i was awaiting thanks. u rock and love the site will check frequently for other awesome stuff u come up with.

  92. dcaro310 Says:

Hello, I see its been brought up a few times but I still haven’t been able to get the GPS in google maps to work right. I installed the hack and it shows up like its suppose to. I switched the GPS settings in google to com4 and 19200 but i never get passed ‘Initializing GPS’, when it goes to ‘GPS Connection Error, No GPS receiver was found.’ Any suggestions? I really would like to get it working right.

  93. tiffany392002 Says:

Im trying to unlock my phone, so that I can put an HCT THEME TO MY Phone. i emailed the download to mty phone and a message comes back saying: CAB was removed from the message as not supported…
    please someone help me.

  94. mechashinsen Says:

Tried installing the CAB and it says Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions. Any ideas???

  95. david Says:

mechashinsec, Try running the SDA Application Unlocker from a PC to app unlock your phone. After running SDA, you shouldn’t need to use to MoDaCo GPS hack.

  96. big_L Says:

i got it on my phone properly installed but where would i b able to access and use the program?

  97. david Says:

big_L, once its installed you dont have to “run” it .. the installation makes all the necessary patches.

  98. avelasqu Says:

Hello all. I am new to the BJ2 scene… I have a BJ2 that I am using on the T-Mobile network and do not have a data plan.

I got the USA and Canada maps online, can someone show me how to get it all to work? I am using WM 6.1 and did the Modaco GPS hack. I just need some help on how to get it all to work. Any point of direction would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to comment here or email me directly at teejay.velasquez@gmail.com.

    Much thanks.

  99. Jaeide Says:

Received a message on Google Maps: “This program requires data connection, and will retry automatically. In the meantime, please check your signal strength”… the MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker installed successfully. Is there something else I need to do?

  100. david Says:

jaeide, it sounds like your phone can’t find an Edge or 3G data connection — it doesnt sound like it has anything to do with the GPS itself.

  101. DOXI Says:

I would like to install Garmin XT on my BJ II, but without loading the maps for the U.S.. I’m in South America and I have the maps for Argentina that I would like to load to the phone’s memory card. I’d really appreciate if anybody could tell me how to do this.

    Thanks! Very useful site.

  102. david Says:

DOXI, Check this thread out in the Forums .. http://www.myblackjack2.com/forum/how_to/topic_99/page-1/

  103. DOXI Says:

Thanks!! I just finished installing it. This site is awesome, really helpful.

  104. malire15 Says:

Ok, I’ve installed the GPS hack on my phone (I can see it in the “Remove Programs” list) but I still can’t get Garmin Mobile XT to connect to my GPS. Any suggestions? I saw buffmann19 said something about unit ID, I don’t see anywhere in GM XT to input any kind of ID except Product Key which my software didn’t come with. Is there anyway to confirm that the GPS hardware is now on COM4?

  105. thanos Says:

I just got a new BJ2 for christmas and it came with WM6.1. I was looking to get the GPS to work. Was wondering if anyone got garmin going without using the SDA or MoDaCo GPS Application Unlocker Hack? Thanks! Great site. I love my new BJ2 but didn’t realize that Fido (canadian provider) does not allow unlimited surfing on smartphone for a flat fee. I have to get a data plan now which sucks. $7/month unlimited mobile surfing is now going to cost me $30/month for 1GB of data.
    Sucks ass.

    thanos

  106. jp0alk Says:

Is there a specific guide? I extraced the zip it’s only setup.xml what do I do?

  107. david Says:

jp0alk, did you read this post? http://www.myblackjack2.com/tips-and-tricks/how-to-install-a-cab-file/

Right above the comment box its says: “Need to know how to install a CAB file? Read this post!!!”

  108. Matlock Says:

Anyone have any luck with this and the Garmin program?

  109. david Says:

Matlock – check the forums out – there are some pretty solid Garmin threads in there.

  110. Matlock Says:

    I appreciate it

I just tried to tranfer Garmin unto phone but didn’t have enough space. Will it run if stored on storage card?

  111. david Says:

matlock – Garmin will run just fine from a storage card

  112. deannadischiavi Says:

yes i have GPS that works on a storage card…but please help david!!!!

I HAVE AN ISSUE…I BOUGHT A SAMSUNG JACK STRAIGHT FROM FIDO..SO THE WINDOWS VERSION IT COMES WITH IS STILLTHE WAY IM USING IT NOW..HOWEVER…EVERY CAB FILE IVE USED FROM THIS SITE…(FAVOURITE SITE EVER..THANK YOU) WORKS PERFECTLY FINE..THE THEMES…GAMES…BASSHUE..HOWEVER..
I TRIED DOWNLOADING THE SMS BUBBLES..AND I WANT THAT APPLICATION SO BADLY..I TRIED INSTALLING IT (THE WAY I DID THE REST OF THE FILES) AND IT DOESNT WORK BECAUSE OF CERTIFICATE RIGHTS AND WHAT NOT…NOW I WAS READING YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT UNLOCKING THE APPLICATIONS BUT I DONT WANT TO RUIN MY PHONE BY ADDING THINGS THAT MIGHT BREAK IT…SO PLEASE GIVE ME HELPFUL INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL THE SMS BUBBLES…(UPGRADE THE VERSION…UNLOCKING…ANYTHING YOU RECOMMEND)
    THANK YOU SO MUCH…!
    DEANNA

  113. deannadischiavi Says:

    nevermind..i figured it out!

  114. juancarlos Says:

is there anyway to avoid using SDA unlocker to install this hack for fido users? i found that after installing sda unlocker my phone has been giving me problems like no audio with calls. ive searched other threads and found all the fido/rogers users are having this problem. i have installed this hack and i am using garmin xt, it works flawlessly. but i dont want to substitute the basic functions of my phone for gps. any help would be much appreciated. thank you

  115. gerry Says:

    Hi David,
I’m new to this whole smartphone thing and all, and I just downloaded the garmin xt for my bj2, i’m loving it and i want to add more apps like the nes emulator but everytime i try installing it i get a message saying it does not have suffient system permissions. i figured i needed the MoCaDo application unlocker to install it but when i try running that i get the same message. Please help it would be much appreciated, love the site by the way, its my new homepage.

  116. david Says:

gerry – thats strange. Try running the SDA Application Unlocker on your Windows XP/Vista machine and use that to Unlock your Blackjack 2… Let me know if that works.

  117. gerry Says:

are you sure that won’t give me the same problems as other user’s who lost audio in their calls, i am a fido user as well just like juancarlos? thanks again david, and for the quick response.

  118. juancarlos Says:

gerry – i think it will screw your phone up, it did with mine and countless other fido/rogers blackjacks. another method of using garmin xt with a fido blackjack is to install microsoft smartphone GPSID and configure as directed and your good to go without having to application unlock your phone (which seems to be the culprit in messing with the audio). the only set back is you dont get the full potential of the phone with all the applications which require you to application unlock. goodluck

  119. mjc8870 Says:

I have modaco visible on remove programs but I am unable to access GPS in Google maps. It says Initializing but than no GPS found. I have set manually to com 4 and 14400 and also tried 19,200. Any suggestions to geth this going? Did I leave anything out? Is their anything else I need to do? Thanks in advance!!! Yhanks for this site!!!!

  120. david Says:

mjc – what version of Windows Mobile are you running? 6.0 or 6.1?

  121. mjc8870 Says:

I got it to work. I am running 6.1. I had to start GPS in live search and then close that app, and then open in Google Maps. I pretty much have to do this each time. I prefer google maps, it is much more accurate.

  122. Bean Says:

    actually a video is unnecesary
i do have one question it says i need a data plan is there any way around this?
please tell me how if there is

  123. heydatsmyrice Says:

Hey I got a question. I run this program and even though I disable the traffic updates and all that stuff so it doesnt access the data connection, it still connects to my data network. I know because on the upper right part of the screen by the signal bars, its shows a little “E” on it. It shows the letter “e” instead of “3g” cause I disabled the 3g to save battery life. I turned on the 3g and it even showed the 3g symbol. What gives? I thought its not supposed to access the data connection?

  124. david Says:

heydat – This hack doesn’t use data. You are probably using a program like Google Maps or Live Search that uses the GPS and uses data to download the Map files. If you dont have data youre best bet will be to use Garmin XT for your mapping needs.
Also – if you don’t have unlimited data, go and install MoDaCo No Data.

  125. rckrmoo Says:

What is a good gps map to use that is free and in a totaly un related subject is the center button supposed to be hard to push

  126. Raiderboi22 Says:

is there a newer version of this hack cuz with windows 6.1 it says it might not run properly cuz it wasmade for the previous version

  127. david Says:

rckmoo, If you have unlimited data then I suggest Google Maps, if you dont have unlimited data then there isn’t any legit free GPS programs that work that well (Terracrosser is the closest thing, but is slightly difficult to use). You could also try searching for Garmin XT in the forums, but use that information at your own descresion.

  128. RobeonMew Says:

    I cannot install the PRogram.
my Rogers Samgung Blackjack II keeps telling me that I do not have enough permissions to install the CAB

  129. Josh Says:

My Rogers Samsung Blackjack 2 is the same as RobeonMew’s

I get this: Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.

I also tried to install the Battery meter, same error, does anyone have a fix for this? E-mail at J0shinator@msn.com

  130. Josh Says:

    I totally figured it out!

Just use the SDA unlocker thing doo-dad from this website and it works, and BTW I dont know if it will do anything for you, but my audio was fine, and there is a warning for Rogers and Fido phones…

But i called some random number like 987 1123 and this creepy lumpy lady told me that the number was not in service and stuff like that, and i put it on speakerphone and it was working too, so i guess something was fixed with that issue.

Thanks to the people at MyBlackjack2.com and Modaco.com I will be able to know where I am when i get lost 500 times! rofl

I am 14 and I love gadgets and I have to say this is very very exciting for me, I was actually gonna buy a GPS for the fun of it a while back but Mommy said no…ROFL

TTY guys later, and Thanks again for the greatness…I never tried it out yet tho, so i will post tomorrow about my adventure going to school with the GPS running…WOOOT any good GPS softwares that I should use that have maps for Winnipeg?

  131. robmale90 Says:

alright i downloaded the file right to my phone in my documents. i went to applications>file explorer> MoDaCa.SmartphoneGPSActivator.COM4. When i click to install it a message saying “installation was unsuccessful. the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.” an app unlocker would allow it to open, but this is the app unlocker, how the heck does it install? lol

  132. Josh Says:

I tried this when I was going to school, as posted earlier, i said i was gonna do that…

It was like going COM 1…COM 2 and it went to like COM5 and then went back to COM 3 and was flashing back and forth between COM3 and COM4 in GPS Test…Then it finally settled to COM4 but it was still trying to connect, and after about 3 minutes…its said GPS IS OFF on the screen where it was showing the COM1-2-3, etc.

How do i turn GPS on?

What settings do i need in GPSID for Chartcross’s GPS Test program to work?

ALSO, if anyone knows, can i continually use this program to look at my current speed and stuff? or does it mess up the phone if u use the program all the time or something?

    Thanks,

    Josh

  133. Josh Says:

    WOAH!

    DONT DO IT ON ROGERS!

I HAVE ROGERS AND I DID THIS, AND JUST AS STATED, MY PHONE WONT MAKE A CALL! :O

I DID A HARD RESET, HOPEFULLY THIS PUT IT BACK TO NORMAL!!!

  134. OmegaWolf Says:

Does anyone know how to get GPSvp working with the BJ2? I already have done the unlock, but it doesn’t seem to connect to the GPS at all.

  135. acassell Says:

I am running Mobile 6.1. The phone stats that the app is installed. I loaded Free Caddie for golf GPS and set it to look for Com 4.

The program “failed to find Com 4″.

Will the app work in 6.1??? You get a waring that it may not. Is there a 6.1 version as it seems unable to work in 6.1!

I also installed another Golf GPS program that also will not work. It appears to be the unlocker that is not unlocking…. Any suggestions>

  136. acassell Says:

Actually the comment on the screen for Free Caddie is “failing to find Com4″. Com4 is not being opened.

    Please help.

  137. mjp4uandme Says:

I know this might be off topic, but my internet is blocked due to excesive bills. It now wont let me send picture message or any MMS. Is there a Cab file to change this or anything! Everytime i try to send one its says “Unable to connect. Verify your profile settings and try again.” :( help:(

  138. david Says:

mjp – i’ve never seen a hack for this and i dont think you could even make one to fix your problem. Im guessing ATT has blocked that service to your phone and theres no getting around it without payin those bills :( … I assume that you must have gotten you bill squared away with ATT or else im guessing they’d shut down all your phone services — if you have squared your bill away but have gotten rid of data, you could be able to call ATT and tell them that you cannot send MMS messages even though youre plan is SMS/MMS enabled (assuming it is). If memory serves, BOTH sms and mms are covered under ATT’s texting plans (meaning you dont need a data plan to send/receive MMS).

  139. mjp4uandme Says:

well i called and they said once you try to send a MMS message it automatically is known as “data” now. Therefore the internet is needed:( ….

  140. david Says:

mjp -well, if they says that MMS requires a data plan and you dont have a data plan then you can send MMS’s :( .. trust me, if there was a hack to get free data no one would be paying for data plans ;)

  141. robmale90 Says:

im sorry if you already explained this, but heres my problem: i put this unlocker MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker on my memory card then into my phone, used file explorer to find it, but when i try to install it like you say in the “how to install a cab file”, it says i do not have pervilages. im in canada on a rogers network, i dont know if that makes a difference. also i did try the SDA unlocker, but that made me lose all my contacts, (good thing i backed it up first) is there something wrong with the way i tried to install this file or is it just because of my network or something that it wont let me install it?

  142. postlapsaria Says:

Doesn’t google maps already use the GPS in the phone? Google maps is able to find my location, so do I not need this?

Or would it make it more accurate or something?

    Why should I want this?

  143. renee Says:

i couldnt get this to work for anything so i got the free telenav trial to test my gps. i reinstalled the hack over the gps then cancelled telenav and it works great now.

  144. mekkattil Says:

oky thanks guys for all the great advice and tips…but i have sum questions beucase im really dumb wen it comes to techonology and phones…so if i download this phone unlocker program den i can send text and use data communication if i dont have texts or anything!???

  145. irouli Says:

Lovin it, but there may be an alternative: microsoft gpsid settings. Paul @ MoDaCo dug it up out of an SDK and made a cab out of it. Gpsid settings won’t uninstall cleanly though so you’ll need a hard reset if you try it out. Don’t even know which Paul did first: gpsid settings or the hack.

At first I couldn’t get this GPS hack to work so I tried gpsid settings. Bad move. Finally organized my actions and got the sequence straight. I wanted to to see whether GPS works without using a data plan (no sim card installed) before I committed to a data plan. This is what I did to test out my GPS on my BJ II (WM 6.1) with a prerequisite of XP computer with ActiveSync and bluetooth (or USB).

    1. Get ActiveSync going (I use the bluetooth connection).
    2. Install SDA application unlocker (need an ActiveSync connection for this since you do this on the XP).
    3. Install GPS Test (this is done using ActiveSync’s Add/ Remove program option).
    4. Install GPS hack (on the BJ using a cab file).
    5. Go outside (and loose ActiveSync).
    6. Run GPS Test OUTDOORS and get 6-7 satellite locks.
    7. Go back inside and reactivate ActiveSync.
    8. Install Google Maps (on the BJ with a cab file).
    9. Run Google Maps.
    10. Set Google Maps to use GPS.

After, I made sure I wasn’t using any cell tower data signals by installing NoData and the above procedure still worked. So I guess now I need a data plan. I’ve got a Family Plan with Unlimited Messaging. There’s a $10/mo data plan for a regular phone and a $30/mo plan for a PDA. Can anyone tell me what the (technical) difference is between the two? Because if there’s really no difference, I’m calling them (ATT) out on it. Maybe someone reading this can start the ball rolling on a class action?

  146. tallwolf744 Says:

  148. david Says:

tallwolf – sounds like you UNZIPPED the CAB file. DO NOT UNZIP THE CAB FILE!!!! Winzip will associated CAB files with it, but do NOT UNZIP it — copy the CAB file to your phone and run the CAB file!

  149. Cgoodman85 Says:

Thanks for the hack. I installed it today and after i did that all of my internet stopped working. Is there something that I did wrong or what?

Hi all. Ok im a serious newbie at this… I loaded the modaco app on my phone using my phone. It was there in the remove programs.. It said like everyone else on here that it was not for this version of windows mobile. I have 6.1 i still hit ok and it was there. I d/l google maps and bing live search as well they were both there. However when i tried to use google maps it could not locate me. Its said I need a data connection and to check my signal strenght. I have 3g and full strength. And the same with the live search.. it said i was in seattle when im in miami. Any suggestions on getting this to work?? also lastly i removed all the programs, but now i have in my start googlemaps.lnk and bing.lnk.. how do i delete these?? Told you I was new..

  152. david Says:

Maxx, Youll have to export your contacts and everything else out to Outlook or some other application, and the export it from there. What are you trying to do with your contacts? Move them to another phone?

  153. david Says:

Cgood, This hack should NOT stop all your internet from working…
Can you uninstall it and see if your internet connectivity resumes?
