MoDaCo GPS Hack & Application Unlocker
Direct Download (Download Page)
Allow any program (Google Maps, Windows Live Search, Garmin Mobile XT, etc.) to access your Blackjack 2’s built in GPS hardware via COM 4. Don’t forget to restart your phone after installing the CAB.
The MoDaCo GPS Hack ALSO application unlocks your Blackjack 2 — This is a MUST HAVE hack. Thanks to the good people at MoDaCo for creating this brilliant hack.
Motorola Q9 users, use the modified hack to activate your GPS software on COM 5 or COM 3 (to increase battery life).
How to tell if the hack has been installed:
The MoDACo GPS hack will not install a Shortcut in your Start menu anywhere so you can check if you’ve installed it. To see if it has been installed:
- Start > Settings > Remove Programs
- Look for “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator”
- If it is listed, the hack is installed and your phone is application unlocked
Concerning data usage with GPS:
Enabling and using the GPS hardware in your Blackjack 2 (or Motorola Q9) does NOT directly impact data usage. The GPS hardware in the phone communicates directly with the GPS satellites and does NOT use the mobile carrier’s data connection. You can communicate with the GPS satellites and get your exact position without having any sort of data plan.
The catch is if you want to use GPS in conjunction with an online mapping service (Google Maps, Windows Live Search, etc.), THOSE services themselves require and use a mobile data connection. When using Google Maps/Windows Live Search in conjunction with GPS, your Smartphone will grab your location from the GPS satellites (not-using a data connection) and then contact Google Maps servers (USING a data connection) to download the map images/info. The map images downloaded from the online mapping service WILL impact data usage.
If you have a program like Garmin XT, Tom tom, etc. that have maps that installed to your Smartphone, then using GPS will NOT impact your data usage.
Hope this makes sense!

i dont think this is working. i did restart it too. I cant do any hacks such as deleting files that would otherwise be denied because they are still denied. I tried the SDA one as well
April 29th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
chipw,
After unlocking your Blackjack II with the SDA Application Unlocker, did SDA Application Unlocker report back stating that your Blackjack II had been unlocked?
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Yes, it did. Also, i can tell it is not GPS unlocked either because google maps is still not working with my GPS receiver.
May 5th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
When i installed this, it told me it was for an older version of windows mobile. im not exactly sure if i did it right, because somehow at&t telenav opened…. i hope i didnt subscribe to it!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:42 am
hi
i actually found that in my bjII, the installation of modaco, gmap and garmin xt screwed up my gps. i have to do a master reset to clean it up. after the reset i simply install the garmin xt and it works right away!! therefore, i am convinced that the modaco hack is not necessary to unlock the gps. actually, the gps was probably never locked in the first place.

ok…some one explain this to me like im a 2 year old…I clicked on the “direct download” link…it pulls up a screen that says to open it with Winzip or Save it to disk…so I clicked open with Winzip and I get a box that says hey…winzip isnt free pay us $29.99…so I went back and clicked save to disk…it pops up in my download box..I click open….get the same winzip box…so I clicked on use evaluation version…now I have a Winzip box and two files…one says Smartp 1.0, the other says setup.xml..I drug both files to my desktop….I opened active sync…synced…nothing…what am I not doing right? I know nothing about cab files…help!
May 13th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
dpearce,
Check out “Tips & Tricks” > “How to Install a Cab File” .. That should clear everything up for you.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
sadly, david…I have that printed out and sitting in front of me…how do I get the cab file on my computer so I CAN install it?? I don’t understand this zip file crap!!
May 13th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I feel like I must have it on my computer by now…I can find 3 WinZip files named Modacoyabayaba.zip, but then what….I am out for tonight will log on tomorrow…thanks!
May 13th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
dpearce,
To download the CAB file to your computer: Right-click the “Direct Download” Link and choose “Save As”, and save the CAB file to your computer. The CAB file is recognized by WinZIP and will have a zip file icon, but it is NOT a zip and DO NOT unzip it. Copy the CAB file to your Blackjack II using activesync.
It may be easier for you to goto this site on your Blackjack II using PockeIE and downloading the MoDaCo CAB file directly to your phone.
May 14th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
ok david, I have the file on my computer. When I open Active Sync it syncs, then I click explore and I find the file, when I click it I get that Winzip screen that says it isn’t free. How do I get the CAB file to copy to active sync?? It can’t be this hard….and I am not THAT computer iliterate!!
May 14th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Ok….I have it on the phone now…I just downloaded it on the phone. I go to Applications - File Explorer - and clicked on the file…it said it installed sucessfully. I shut the phone off and restarted it. I turned it back on and went to Applications….it isn’t there. What am I not doing right now?!?
May 14th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
dpearce,
Glad to hear you were able to get the CAB file to your phone and install it. After installing the MoDaCo GPS hack, it will NOT be listed under Applications (or anywhere in the Start Menu). It is a hack, not an application persay. If you would like to verify that its been installed, Go to: Start > Settings > Remove Programs and make sure “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator” is listed (don’t remove it, just make sure its listed)
Hope this helps
May 15th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
yep! It’s there and I downloaded the ringtone hack! Love it!! Would it pose a problem for me to download that LEDAlert as well?? Also - on my screen at the top where the 3G, battery life, bars, etc. symbols are, mine are GREY, making it very hard to read…how can I change those to white or some other BRIGHTER color?? Thanks for all your help!
May 21st, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I down loaded the gps hack on my bj2 and seems to work just fine….my question is how do I see and know if my phone is unlocked? can’t find windows in active syn………thanks…
May 24th, 2008 at 3:11 am
Hi,
I’ve done the installation of the MoDaCo hack as well as the Google Maps.
Now the question is that how do I know I am not using my service provider’s wireless data plan and getting charged, but am using the ACTUAL gps?
Thank you.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
betarbya,
I’ve added to the post addressing your concerns of GPS usage effecting your data plan usage.
Hope this clears things up!
May 24th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
hey i just signed up for your site and I tried to download you GPS hack I think I did it successfully but Im not sure when I am on my computer and I look under my mobile device in file management I can see the CAB file but when I try to look on my phone to find it I cant. So if its not showing up on my phone is it actually installed it didnt even ask me to install it and when I go to remove programs its not listed I use Vista at home and the CAB file is listed under Documents on Smartphone
May 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
never mind I just checked google maps and its working I just cant see the traffic info? any ideas why i enabled it to let me see and it just says unavailable
May 27th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Hey David,
I’ve installed Tomtom Navigator 6, cracked it as well; however, in the “GPS Configuration” I don’t know which one to choose from the list available:
- Tomtom Bluetooth GPS receiver
- Tomtom Wired GPS receiver
- Other bluetooth GPS receiver
- Other NMEA GPS receiver
For the last two you have to choose a COM from the list, I don’t know which one to choose, I tried all, none work.
Oh and also I am aware of having bluetooth turned ON in order to activate the GPS device.
Any sort of help will be appreciated!!!
Thank you.
May 29th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
How do I know if it has been successfully unlocked?
I transferred the cab via activesnyc, opened/installed the cab and it said something about how it might not work properly because it was designed for a different version of microsoft mobile.
I did the “Remove Programs” trick you said earlier to someone else, and its definitely there under my programs… But is it working?
June 3rd, 2008 at 4:21 pm
First off, thank you David for the great hacks!!!
So far, I have downloaded the MoDaCo GPS hack, BB theme, SMS bubbles and max ringtone to 25mb. Everything seems to work fine, but I noticed that under “Power Management” my main battery meter bar is missing although charged. Has ne1 notice this?
June 4th, 2008 at 9:51 am
gznuttz,
My battery meter is showing under power managerment and I have just about every hack on this site installed on my Blackjack II. Gznuttz, you have a Blackjack II correct?
I have no idea why/how the battery meter could disappear from your Power Management menu. Have you tried powering off/on your phone?
June 4th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Yes, I have a Blackjack 2. I powered on and off several times, charged with wall adapter and via usb to no avail–purple meter still missing. Would it be possible if I could UNINSTALL all the hacks via “remove programs” and REINSTALL without messing up my BJ2? Other thoughts? THANKS!
June 4th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
gznuttz,
Try changing your theme back to one of the original themes that came with your phone.
June 4th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
gznuttz,
It looks like the blackberry theme’s color scheme is hiding the power bar (the foreground and background colors are teh same) .. i will change this and update the theme tonight.
sorry to scare you like that
June 4th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
You are definitely right! The theme’s color is hiding the power bar. What I did was kept the “Brianberry Bold v1″ as my theme and change the color scheme to “Samsung Blue” instead of “default.”
It looks like any color scheme will work but the “default” color. Thanks again!!!
June 9th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
I’ve tried to install the GPS hack both on my storage card and my BJ2, but get the following error message during the install: “Install was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.” ne1 been able to resolve this issue? Thx.
June 12th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I have the SGH- i616 and i am with fido in Canada. When i tried to install MoDaCo Unlocker on my phone I get a msg sayin that installation was unsuccessful because it does not have sufficient system permission. Can anyone can help me……. Thankx
June 13th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Malcom,
I have no experience with the SGH-i616 — have you tried using the SDA Application Unlocker tool?
June 13th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I tried using the SDA app but again i get a msg sayin the “SDA is not a valid windows CE app…” I have hear that you can get a phone de-branded what does this mean and would it mess up the phone…
June 13th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Malcom,
It sounds as if you are trying to run SDA Application Unlocker directly from your Blackjack 2 … You have to run SDA Application Unlocker on your Windows computer while your Blackjack 2 is connected to it via USB/ActiveSync.
June 15th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Thanks buddy ur da best……I was tryin to install it on the phone but when i tried it ur way it worked….what r some good GPS apps that don’t need a data plan and where can i get them…..
And once again thanks ur site is very helpful… keep up da good work….
June 16th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Hi David,
I still am waiting to get BJ2 from Fido (Canadian Provider). I just wanted to do my homework in advance to unlock the GPS. As MalcomD mentioned above, his fido bj2 is unable to work with modaco mod. We know that modaco hack does 2 functions
1- application unlock
2- unlock and define the COM for gps so that i can use Garmin XT.
What if ModAco doesnt work like it did not for MalcomD? I will have to use SDA app? What will SDA app do? application unlock my bj2? How would it define the COM port for my bj2 so that I can use Garmin XT, which Modaco hack does automatically?
I would be VERY grateful for yar help.
June 16th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
betarbya: where did you get the Tom Tom navigator 6 from? Did you buy it? If yes then why did you need to crack it?
June 17th, 2008 at 7:43 am
Katatonia: Once you use the SDA app to unlock ur phone You will be able to install the Modaco app. It worked for me. By the way where did you get the garmin XT and let me know if u get it to work, cause I had a copy but i couldn’t get it installed…..
June 17th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Hi MalcomD: I am still in the process of getting GarminXT. As soon as I do i will let ya know. Thanks for the suggestions. I just got my bj2 and trying to play around. But it does not detect my 1 gb micro sd card. Did Fido put a restriction on that? ???
June 17th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
updatE: I was able to use my microsd card. i realized that I had put a password on it while I was using my nokia e65. so i removed it from e65 and bingo, it worked on bj2. phew
Malcolm: I have a question. I cannot find Telenav anywhere. I was told that I have to download it via mobile internet? is that true? Can I unlock my gps without downloading telenav?
June 17th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
sorry for hijacking the comment box, malcolm, did you get any memory card in the fido box?
July 8th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
i dont know if we are still up to date here but,
what exacually does the SDA app do? i used to to unlock my phone so i could finally install the Modaco app. What Now? does this SDA app stay on my phone or can it be taken off?
July 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
nick,
SDA Application unlocker is an app hat you run in Windows (NOT ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE) that connects to your mobile phone via ActiveSync and Application Unlocks your phone. Application unlocking your phone means certain built in security measures on your phone are removed; removing the security measures will allow you to modify certain previously-restricted files, change previously-restricted registry keys, etc.
you dot NOT need to application unlock your phone to install MoDaCo GPS Hack… MoDaCo GPS Hack will Application unlock your phone for you.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:55 am
oh ook, thanks for clearing that up for me,
great job with everything on the site!
July 13th, 2008 at 12:19 am
i did the modaco gps hack. does that mean if i use google maps gps i wont be charged for anyhing
July 13th, 2008 at 10:09 am
how do you start to use this do you go to do more and use your telenav gps i already installed it
July 13th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Raman,
I suggest you use it with GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search.. I believe you will have to pay if you want to you TeleNav.
July 13th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
So i downloaded and installed google maps and MoDaCo GPS Hack then if i use google maps does it still use data?
July 14th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
slugshot,
“i did the modaco gps hack. does that mean if i use google maps gps i wont be charged for anyhing” .. NO! If you do not have unlimited data you will be charged for using Google Maps with the unlocked GPS. All the MoDaCo GPS hack does is allow other programs (besides TeleNav) to use the GPS unit in your phone. GoogleMaps still has to download its map files to your phone using your phone’s data connection.
July 15th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Easy as pie. Thank you! A quick question though: I was prompted by my device that this was designed for an older version of Windows Mobile.
I have Windows Mobile 6 on my newly purchased BJII, is that going to be a problem?
July 16th, 2008 at 8:05 am
murdoc,
Nope - thats fine. The hack’s installer was packaged for WM5 but it will work just fine on WM6 (everyone with a Blackjack II is using WM6 or higher). You can ignore that warning message.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Great! Thanks.
July 16th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Someone please help me…..i did it up to this point Go to: Start > Settings > Remove Programs and make sure “MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator” is listed (don’t remove it, just make sure its listed). I see it, but it’s not working for me….like what am i suppose to do to get it to work??
can someone walk me through it step by step….i’m not really familiar w/ this phone. I got it unlocked, but just can’t get the GPS to work. Please Help!! Thank you!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
mylucky,
What Mapping application are you trying to use with GPS? I suggest you try GoogleMaps.
July 17th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Yes i’m trying to use GPS….I download everything you ask, but it still isn’t working. I do see the file on remove programs and that’s it. Can someone walk me through it again. What else am i suppose to do?? How do i download the cab file?? i’m read the instruction, and i’m still not understanding it. I’m very new at this phone. So please explain more clearly.
Thank you so much.
July 20th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Hi, everyone. I am new here, but this site has been amazingly helpful to me, so I wanted to give back a little.
This hack is amazing, and works great with Google Maps (just download and run this right on your Blackjack, or download it to your desktop, explore your device via Activesync, and copy it to your device and run it on your Blackjack. It will work!
***But now for the good stuff:*** Want to use your Blackjack II just like a traditional GPS unit? (i.e. NO data plan or even cell coverage required, a visual trail or track of where you have been, and speed/mileage/altitude/time travelled, and LAT/LON data!!!…just like a GPS unit for hiking, biking, or geocaching.) Well, as Barack Obama says, “Yes We Can!”
After unlocking your GPS with the hack on this site, go to http://www.smartphone-freeware.com and download NoniGPSPlot. (Tip: You MUST go to advanced settings and set the software to read the GPS data on *** COM4 *** or this software will not work.)
The software was written by a Frenchman who didi a pretty good job (all the functionality you need is there!), but it is a little hard to navigate at first (I will post some of my favorite settings if anyone is interested), and the speeds and distances are metric. I don’t care, I am just grateful for the software.
So now we can use our Blackjack II’s just like traditional handheld GPS units, even if we are far from a cell signal. This feature can come in handy when hiking or camping, or maybe even save your life in the wilderness someday.
Best wishes to all,
- okmft
July 21st, 2008 at 6:55 pm
I downloaded the hack, and it seems to be installed. But when I try to get my location using Live Search, it goes through the process like it’s trying to find my location (i.e Getting position…) then it seems to just timeout and I get the message “Sorry, the GPS connection has been lost. Would you like to reconnect?” A never ending loop, and yes I have set the “Settings” in Live Search to use ‘GPS Com4′. Any suggestion?
July 21st, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Hi guys,
I just bought my bjII last night and i’m trying to figure out how to install this hack.
I did like someone said, Check out “Tips & Tricks” > “How to Install a Cab File” .. That should clear everything up for you.
once i try to install it tells me :installation was unsuccesssfu. the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions….
How can I by-pass that ?
thanks
July 21st, 2008 at 8:33 pm
http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=151
if you have the same issue as I did, just install the software form the link.
July 21st, 2008 at 10:23 pm
ok, i have tried using the modaco crack 3 times now with no success. I’m no stranger to loading and installing CAB files. The install runs smooth until the end when it says that the program was meant for a previous version of Windows Mobile. When i use Google maps, the my locations thing works fine, but when i tell it to use com4 it tells me that the GPS device cannot be located. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:45 am
weird…worked for me on the first try with GoogleMaps and Noni GPS, although it took a long time to find the sattelites the first time I used it.. (I have a new Blackjack II.) Let me think this through and I will see if I have any suggestions.
Best wishes, okmft
July 24th, 2008 at 1:52 am
one comment: after instaling the GPS hack, Google Maps worked fine with using the Windows-managed GPS settings (under GoogleMaps settings, leave them at the default Windows settings; you *do not* need to change them to COM 4). If you install NoniGPS, you have to do it in that program’s settings, however (and that is slightly tricky, but can be done with a little bit of messing around).
July 27th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I found that Google maps would only work for me with the COM4 and “14400″ settings…
But alas…I started all over and now use LiveSearch, it initializes the GPS much quicker than Google (for me anyway).
I wonder, though, how much power does it use?
If I leave it running/scanning satellites, does it kill my battery? Will it overheat?
July 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
gortok,
In my experience using GPS does drain your battery a little faster than normal usage (or maybe its just that im using ti with GoogleMaps/Windows Live Search which use the data connection which drains the battery more quickly). That being said, its not going to burn through a full charge in 60 mins of use.
Using GPS will NOT cause your phone/battery to overheat.
July 28th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
hi, i got a question (dunno if its been asked or not)
what does the modaco GPS hack actually DO (aside from the app unlocker)
like, i can do everything with my GPS that i did before i installed it.
is there something im not seeing that is SUPER cool?
July 28th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
josh,
Nope - nothing Super cool besides allowing applications to access the GPS Hardware on COM 4 (if GoogleMaps/Windows Live Search/etc could access your GPS prior to the hack then the hack isnt going to add value in this regard). The GPS hack also application unlocks your phone which allows you to modify restricted files/folders on your phone.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:39 am
Can anyone verify that this actually works? I have installed it 3 times in the past, each time thinking that I could get it to work THIS time. However, it has always managed to not work and subsequently on 2 occasions force me to hard reset the unit.
Since there are so many questions about it, (64 responses at this point) maybe what would be best is a step by step formula for installing it, running it, and then getting it to work with Google Maps or Windows LiveSearch.
July 31st, 2008 at 9:00 am
cgroll,
This hack does work (thought ive seen posts like yours where users can’t get it to work) .. i would really like to know if the Blackjack II’s that can’t use this hack can use the GPS with the built-in Telenav software (which costs $) ..
August 5th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi david,
I am new to this site. I just purchased the I616 from Fido. I have unlocked the phone for installing applications and now I installed the Modaco gps hack. I am trying a test program from charcross ltd that will test the com port to see if it is working and get a gps position. it is called gps test. the problem is that it originally stated when starting up the program and configuring it “Gps Starting Up” but it stays on this for 10 to 15 mnutes and does not get a location.. i tried the program called co-pilot a hack and it tries to locate a gps setting but also cannot find it.
How do i know if the hack workedand the gps is set for com4. i really would like to use this phone with the gps. i had an Ipaq 6955 before with gps and I am still using it but would like to use only 1 phone.
Thanks
Fibronet
P.S. I even hard reset the phone last night to just try and setup the gps only before loading any applications and notning.
Any help would be appreciated.
August 7th, 2008 at 6:47 am
Hi,
Ok I finally got the GPS working by hard resetting the phone and going step by step.
I have though 1 question. Is there any updates to this version (new maps, new updates to the software) ?
is there text to speech available ?
Fibronet
August 7th, 2008 at 8:14 am
Fibronet, Great to hear you got it working!! Can you describe the exact steps you took after doing a factory reset of the phone?
As for updates Im not sure what you mean — if you use the GPS Hack in conjunction with GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search, all the maps are dynamic (stored on Google’s or MS’s servers, so you are ALWAYS using the latest maps they have available) .. Neither GoogleMaps or Windows Live Search support voice recognition.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:54 am
David,
I hard reset the phone. then I did the unlock for permissions to load software using SDA Application unlock. the I did the modaco GPS Hack. then I went to download the garmin xt mobile software and followed you instructions. then happiness set in and everything is working perfectly. I even went to the url link at the end of the instructions and updated the software to the latest maps and program.
I am looking for text to speech on the garmin.
does anyone have any knowledge on Co-Pilot ?

[...] good people that brought us the infamous MoDaCo GPS Hack have done it again! They released another incredibly handy utility for all you Blackjack 2 users [...]
August 8th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Hello all -
I am a cheapskate and would like to know what the most cost effective way to use my BJ2 GPS is… I downloaded google maps thiniking that it was a one time data transfer (to get the program) but soon found out with the arrival of my bill that it charges me to use it. How do I go about getting the Garmin program? Will I have to pay for that? I just want a program that does not use data transfer and simply communicates with the satellites themselves.
Please help!
Thank you!!!
August 8th, 2008 at 11:05 am
bigfan, sorry to hear about that
There is a “Data Usage” section at the bottom of the GPS Hack posts that talks about GoogleMaps/MS Live Search’s data usage :T ..
Garmin XT is a commercial app so you’d have to pay for it.. you can probably buy it from garmin.com or handango.com .. You might ask around in the forums if there is someplace you can get it cheaper…. ?
Garmin XT would be the program to use if you only want to us GPS and use ZERO data connection. Also - checkout the “MoDaCo No Data” utility in the Utilities .. it should help prevent this sort of thing (using data unawares) from happening in the future.
August 16th, 2008 at 3:04 am
Hey all - Just one (perhaps obvious) question: I got Windows Live Seach shortly after getting My BlackJack II (My 1st SmartPhone, thus the lame userID - Anyway, My phone must have had GPS unlocked by AT&T, because Windows Live Search uses “GPS Intermediate driver” with no com port listed -just fine! - any com port I try renders it useless. Will Garmin / Google Maps & other work without the hack or do they (and the other apps mentioned here) REQUIRE you use Com4 or another static com port? I don’t want to apply the hack if it’s unnecessary. What do you think David/everyone?
August 16th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
SmartAssPhone,
You should not have to use the MoDaCo GPS Hack for Google Maps or Garmin XT if you can use Windows Live Search with the GPS Intermediate Driver. If you want to Application Unlock your phone I would use the SDA App Unlocker since that doesn’t do anything with your GPS settings (I’d hate to have the MoDaCo GPS Hack mess up your ability to access the GPS HW if its currently working .. i dont think it would, but why chance it, ya know?)
August 19th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Hi David,
I copied the cab file to My Documents in my phone but when I tried to open setup icon to install, it showed a lot of characters on the screen (just like the one below) and did not prompt me to install. I can’t seem to get it to work. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. Please help. Thanks!

August 20th, 2008 at 6:14 am
genernkris - you are unzipping the CAB file and copying the contents of the CAB file to your phone. Don’t do this. Right Click on the download link above and select “Save As” .. Read the post in Tips & Tricks on “How to install a CAB file”.
August 27th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Hello, I just recently got my smart phone. Which program would you recommend: MoDaCo GPS Hack or the SDA Application Unblocker. Your preference may be in the comments above, but I wanted to leave a comment for myself.
Thanks,
Sky

If I install the MoDaCo GPS Hack will it disable my unlimited text messaging?

I showed my brother this program and he wanted it for his ATT Tilt, but it doesn’t exactly work. I’m specifically refering to the Garmin XT that you can download after you unlock it. Does anyone know if it can actually work?

katrina, No - installing the modaco GPS hack will not disable your unlimited text messaging. This hack doesn’t change any of the service plans youve established with your carrier.

Google Maps and GPS worked seamlessly without downloading the Modaco Hack to unlock GPS with Windows 6.1

OK so after playing around for a week i can’t get it to work. I find the program in my applications when i go to the remove applications area. I have 2 seperate GPS software programs Garmin XT mobile and GPSVP both cannot access the GPS… GPSVP says that there is no connection to the GPS and Garmin XT mobile is searching for the GPS constantly not finding it (it also had a hard time accessing my bluetooth) I believe that the GPS is still not unlocked. Is there anything else you think to unlock it? I have installed several of the other “hacks” with no problems, its not that i dont understand what you are talking about I just feel that I am having hardware problems with the GPS.

Yea, I got it to work with Google maps and Live Search (after setting to Com 4). It’s easy to test, just press Menu while in Live Search or Google Maps and choose to “Center on GPS”, it takes a few minutes and you might have to be outside so it can “see” the satellite(s).
It just took a second try at installation as nothing works for me the first time! I was using Google Gears, but now I can uninstall that as GPS is better. Great hack, thanks.

forget i figured it out. If you would like to know my problem when i used the unit ID i used 1.1.2.158 or whatever finding the numbers through the device, whereas i had to go into the garmin file itself and settings then about and got the #’s for the real unit ID and now i have the amazing GPS i was awaiting thanks. u rock and love the site will check frequently for other awesome stuff u come up with.

Hello, I see its been brought up a few times but I still haven’t been able to get the GPS in google maps to work right. I installed the hack and it shows up like its suppose to. I switched the GPS settings in google to com4 and 19200 but i never get passed ‘Initializing GPS’, when it goes to ‘GPS Connection Error, No GPS receiver was found.’ Any suggestions? I really would like to get it working right.
