Alpha-Dial Cheat Sheet
One incredibly annoying thing about my Blackjack 2 is its quite difficult to dial Alpha-phone numbers (ex. 1-800-EAT-CAKE or 1-800-CALL-ATT) .. The Blackjack’s number-pad doesn’t come with the number-to-letter translation like most non-smartphones do. This isn’t something that you generally use on a daily basis, but it sure helps out in a pinch.
MyBlackjack2.com user Terry found a solution to this problem by modifying the image at the top of call screen:

This is a very simple yet effective solution. I’ve packaged up Terry’s image into a CAB file for easy install/uninstall.
Prior to installing make sure you’ve application unlocked your Blackjack 2.
After installing/uninstalling you must restart your Blackjack 2.
If you would refer an application for your phone that will convert Alpha to Numeric on the fly, check out:
I think its more convenient to use the cheat sheet than to open a program that will automatically covert the phone number for me, but to each his own.

Pretty useful!
Is there any mod that can convert the text input on the fly to numbers?

is there a hack to change the length of the vibrate when you receive a call or text? i heard there was one in the registry, but just wonderif it was capable of being thrown into a CAB.

endless, I appended the post to include links to two different applications that do this.
xgabex, I found a Registry Hack thats supposed to shorten the Vibrate Notification Length (for SMS at least), however I havent had a chance to play around with the settings to find the perfect vibration length to package up in a CAB.

dexsta,
Have you 1) application unlocked your phone prior to running the CAB 2) Did you restart your phone after installing the CAB?
The two links at the bottom of the page are both separate programs .. none of the three Alpha-dial solutions rely on the others..

If I install this cab, can it be removed from “Remove Programs” and revert back to the original AT&T image? TIA.

tedya,
Yes - uninstalling via the “Remove Programs” interface will revert you back to the original AT&T image. You will have to manually reboot your phone after you uninstall the CAB.

WM6.1 Update - 6.1 includes Vanity Dialing. To turn it on go to Settings>Key Settings>Vanity Dialing and turn it on. Once one you can dial a number including text and your blackjack will automatically convert it for you.

I’m new to this site, which I think is great, and am also a new BJ2 user. I have a dialing problem that I hope someone can help me with before I try one of the 3 downloads available for alpha-dialing. Here goes…when I call my financial institution, the first thing I am prompted for is my account number, followed by the first two letters of my last name and the # sign. The first two letters of my last name are MC, so my entry would be, for example, 11111mc#. It will not accept M as a valid entry. I called Samsung tech support and was ready to climb to the top of a bell tower somewhere after I got off the phone with them! Customer service at AT&T offered some suggestions that made sense but neither of them worked.
Can someone tell me if any of the downloads on this site are going to help me in this situation? Sorry this post was so long, but I call this number pretty regular and am very frustrated right now.

crimson, sorry to hear about your problem .. i think what you have to do is
1) Enter your account number
2) Enter the first two letters of your last name as they appear on a normal telephone keypad.
Example: If you’re account number was 11111 you would enter:
1111162#
Because on a normal telephone M = 6 key, C = 2 key … Having the Alpha-Deal Cheat Sheet would help you make this traditional Letter-to-Number translation.

David, thanks for the fast reply. That was one of the suggestions from the CSR at AT&T; unfortunately it didn’t work. The BJ2 must recognize the letter that corresponds with 6, which is G. My thought is the BJ2 doesn’t recognize dialing a letter during a live call if it is not associated with a number. I looked thru the BJ2 manual and looked all over the forums on Samsung’s site, but it appears I am the only person that has ever encountered this problem!
