Change MediaNet and CV Hard Buttons
- Make sure your phone is App Unlocked. You can do this by installing the MoDaCo GPS Hack or using the SDA Application Unlocker (both available on this site).
- Download the ZIP file using the above link.
- Unzip the ZIP file into a temporary directory; you will have 4 files
- CV.exe
- CV.exe.config
- MediaNet.exe
- MediaNet.exe.config
- Open CV.exe.config
- In the <add key=”Path” …> tag, replace the “value” with the the path to the application the CV button will launch
- In the <add key=”Args” …> tag, replace the “value” with the the correct value. If you do not know what to put here, set value = “”
- Repeat the same steps to configure the MediaNet hard button, except modify MediaNet.exe.config
- Upload all 4 files via ActiveSync to your Blackjack 2’s /Windows/ directory overwriting the existing files.
- Your CV and MediaNet hard buttons will now launch your selected apps!
- Note: The first time you use the newly configured hard buttons, you will be asked to “Confirm that you want to run the program on your device.”, select “Yes”.
- Note: After using the MediaNet and CV buttons, MediaNet.exe and CV.exe will be listed in your Task Manager. These remain in memory to increase responsiveness of the hard buttons.
Thanks to xkuizit at howardforums for this hack!

These instructions fail for me at step 8 — I’m unable to overwrite those .exe’s in the Windows directory (and many other files in this folder). I get the error “You do not have permission to change this item.” My device is definitely app unlocked and restarted since the unlocking. I’ve also tried doing the file overwrite through the device’s File Explorer but still with no luck. Any help would be much appreciated!

Keith,
How are you copying the files over? Are you copying them using ActiveSync? If not try using ActiveSync (Connect your Blackjack 2 to your computer using Active Sync, Open My Computer > My Mobile Device > Windows Folder, copy the replacement files into this folder)
May 24th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
hi david. i’ve tried doing the overwrite over activesync. i’ve also tried copying the file to a temp location, then using the device’s File Explorer to move the file to the Windows folder. both methods result in permissions errors.
i did notice that the files i’m trying to overwrite are readonly. i’ve changed them to be not readonly, but they immediately revert back to being readonly. weird! maybe that has something to do with it though i can’t figure out a way to make that attribute change stick.
June 1st, 2008 at 2:56 pm
keith5000, im having the same problem
i am running vista, and so i can not use activsync. Whenever i try to copy over a file, it says i dont have permission, and when i unclick read only, it just reclicks it. I tried using Total Command, but it seems i cant access my phone via that program. What am i doing wrong?
June 6th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
these stop for me at step 4. i can’t open the config files to edit them. is there a certain program i need on my computer to do this, or do i do this within the phone?
June 6th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
hbcbob3,
I suggest editting the .config files using Notepad (available on any Windows install)
June 7th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I also get a perm error when attempting to replace the files.
Im running vista.
Its app unlocked
and still doesnt work.
help?
June 9th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
thanks a lot!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
So is there any way i can copy the files to my phone without it saying i dont have permission?
June 10th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Crey,
How did you application unlock your smartphone?
June 10th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
using Modace Spartphone GPS Activator, which also app unlocks it if im not mistaken
it does give me the error that it was for a previous version of windows mobile software
but then says it installed successfully
June 11th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
crey,
Try using the SDA Application Unlocker and see if you have any better luck with that.
June 11th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
here are the steps i do/take:
1. download the zip containing the hack app
2. open it and hit the button
3. it says reboot, so i hit the power button and hit power off
4. wait a minute and hit the power button to turn it on
5. plug my phone back into my computer
6. navigate to: Computer\Ben’s Blackjack\\\Windows
7. download the cv and medianet files and edit them to my likings
8. copy the files in the folder, go back to the folder for step 6, and hit control v
9. it asks if i want to overwrite the files, and i hit “yes to all”
10. i get this error: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i76/Creyentededios/blackjack_hack.png
what am i doing wrong?
either im totally missing a step
or my phone refuses to be hacked!
July 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I am tring to get the media net key to open iexplorer. I put in windows/iexplorer.exe and it goes to a directory on the blackjack II
July 6th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Hi
I have the same problem. Tried to overwrite over Windows Mobile Device Center(Windows Vista). Also tried copying the file to the storage Card then moving them with File Explorer. No luck in both case.
Is Vista problem or I’m doing something wrong. Ineed your help in this one.
The others hack are formidable. I like them all. Thank you.
July 6th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Hi David,
Just answering my own question.
A friend bring an XP laptop. I installed ActiveSync, connect my blackjackII, and overwrite the files over ActiveSync with no problem. So is Windows Vista the culprit of the problem.
Thank you. This and the others hacks, love them all. Thank you.
July 7th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Yep, Vista was my culprit. I retried via an XP machine and it worked!
July 21st, 2008 at 2:33 am
It seems that deleting the shortcuts also disables the function key shortcuts. For example,
Fn + C no longer brings up AT&T Mall. Not that you’d ever want to use that shortcut, anyway, lol.
I think I should point out that the applications aren’t removed from your phone, just the shortcuts. So if you ever did want to visit AT&T Mall, you would need to visit the Windows Directory and find it in the alphabetical list.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:25 am
I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff so I must ask how exactly should I type in the new path to get to windows media? or opera? Thanks and this is an awesome site.
July 25th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
hotlantan,
You would find the Program file you want to execute and then enter the folder path including filename in the .config file.
Example: for Windows Media Player: < add key="Path" value="/Windows/wmplayer.exe" />
for Opera Mobile < add key="Path" value="/Program Files/Opera/OperaWM.exe" />
July 28th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Hey david. So i finally got to an XP computer. I have successfully copied the files over to my blackjack. Now im having trouble finding the programs i want to open. I want to open alarms and file explorer. Where can i find these? ive looked all over my bj2 but havent found them!
thanx for your help!
July 28th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Crey,
— here’s a quick trick to find paths to most programs that show up in your Start Menu
Hrm - my Blackjack 2 is charging upstairs right now and i’m too lazy to get it
Hope this helps - if not - post back and ill see if I can dig the paths up.
July 29th, 2008 at 10:45 am
thanx, i knew there was a way to view the shortcut, i just didnt know where or how.
Well i tried it, it didnt work. Here is what the shorcut is to:
25#\Windows\TimeManager.exe?:Active_Icon\Alarmsapp
ive tried:
25#\Windows\TimeManager.exe?:Active_Icon\Alarmsapp
\Windows\TimeManager.exe
\Windows\AlarmScheduler.exe
i guess im doin something wrong
:/
July 29th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
crey, try using foward slashes (/) in your file path, like so:
< add key="Path" value="/Windows/TimeManager.exe?:Active_Icon\Alarmsapp" />
July 29th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
okay, so i tried:
and
and for file explorer:
none work. The loading sign pops up, but then just goes away and im still at the homescreen.
why must it be so difficult!?
July 30th, 2008 at 9:03 am
crey,
The CV.exe.config available from the Download link points to the FileExplorer already… that doesn’t work for you? It should, its the one I am using on my phone.
< ?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
< configuration>
< appSettings>
< add key="Path" value="/Windows/fexplore.exe" />
< add key="Args" value="" />
< /appSettings>
< /configuration>
July 30th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
well, i tried that, and it still wont open the file explorer! i wonder why i am having so much trouble! hmmm
i think i am just going to set the values to nothing, because i mainly wanted this to disable the iexplorer one, because when i would type, i would accidentally hit it, and it would load my internet explorer and that costs money!
thanx for all your help
:/

I’ve updated the files and pointed the CV to my calculator and the Media buttion to my calendar. I’ve copied all four files to the /windows folder. However it didnt overwrite anything. As far as I can tell the files to be overwritten are nowhere on this phone, or at least not using these names. Is it possible that my phone (running 6.1) is using different names for these files? Any thoughts?
August 6th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
It is very possible that this hack will not work on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard! I am still running Windows Mobile 6.0 and havent had a chance to play around with 6.1 — may I ask how you got a Blackjack II with WM 6.1?
August 7th, 2008 at 2:19 am
The Windows Mobile Team gave it to me two weeks ago. One of these days they want me to sit through a 4 hour conf call to talk about what I think of the software. So far the SMS only works half the time. Im also using it on T-Mobile so that might be adding to the headache. Can you think of any registry settings or other files that might control those buttions? What file names control the camera and text message buttions? Maybe if I can track down the files that work the camera and text quick buttions it’ll give me a hint as to what the CV and Media files are called…just a thought.
August 7th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Lefty, My fault
I was looking at your e-mail in the admin section rather than your username - sorry for asking you where you got the 6.1 update, we already talked about that on a different post..
Anyhow - im not sure if there are registry entries for the hard buttons .. i dont believe there were any for WM6.0..
The filenames are those found in the ZIP file in this post.
Its exciting that you get to sit down with some developers and talk the update - im jealous!

Hey guys great websit,
I am having all the same problems here. I cannot overwrite the cv.exe or the medianet.exe files in the windows directory on the BJ2.
I’m not able to even access the windows directory using the ActiveSync file manager. All of the folders show up in ActiveSync except the Windows folder.
When I try to copy/paste the 4 files using the handheld file manager it gives me errors that “cannot copy ‘CV’: access is denied”.
I’ve tried it on two different XP machines, and have the same problem on each.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I was able to get the GPS unlocker to work, at least it shows up in my “program file list”.
August 17th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
SUCCESS - I was able to overwrite the cv and medianet files by downloading and installing the Resco file explorer. It warned me, but I was able to overwrite the files and it worked.

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I tried to perform this mod, to place the Media Net button to link to Skyfire, and the CV button to link to Opera. So I typed in Program Files/Skyfire/Skyfire Launch.exe, and the same format for Opera, and moved the files to the Windows Start menu directory, only to experience failure for this mod. What do i need to do to fix this?? I am using XP Pro.
August 20th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I believe the path for Skyfire is:
/Program Files/Skyfire/Skyfire.exe
And Opera MOBILE is (not sure about Mini):
/Program Files/Opera/OperaWM.exe” <– previously posted in the comments.
You will then copy the 4 files to:
/Windows/ on your Blackjack II .. NOT the Start Menu directory. Read through the post and comments, they should explain most everything.
August 21st, 2008 at 9:36 am
Ok, I placed the four files in the Windows directory, but now when I press the Media Net button or the CV button, the colorful spinning circle….and thats it, I copied the files using Resco explorer as mentioned in the earlier post, restarted the phone, but nothing has happened.

Any help?
August 27th, 2008 at 7:26 am
I have the Canadian version of the blackjack 2 (the Samsung jack SGH-i616). There is no medianet or cv button but there is a button denoted with an “i”. When I press it it launches PIE (and I believe used to try to connect to my providers home wap site, which it no longer can do and produces the error “page cannot be found - this I don’t care about).
What I would like to know is, how to find out what the file is that the specific key would launch. I presume all I would have to do is rename the files (say for MediaNet) to correspond to whatever file the button is launching.
In fact I tried just that, and it worked for changing the launch of what I thought was the file responsible (DoMore.exe) when I launched the file directly form the /windos/ dir, but I found that the key wouldn’t launch the app I specified (voicecmd.exe). I’m guessing that “DoMore.exe” was not the right file.
I don’t suppose anyone else has tried to figure this out. I’ve done quite a bit of searching on the web, but can’t find anything.
If this helps, the “i” button I”m talking about is in place of the MediaNet button.
Thanks a bunch,
August 27th, 2008 at 9:06 am
If you are having trouble over writing a file make sure it is not running in the background.
Check Task Manager for CV.exe, or MediaNet.exe.
I had the same trouble with my DoMore.exe file that I tried to over write and thought perhaps it was running, and surely enough it was, so I stopped the app in Task Manager and was able to over write the file. (I restored the file to the original since it wasn’t the right file for the key I was trying to change - but that’s from a previous post).
Also, I use Total Commander as my primary file explorer, has awsome functionality, both on WM pro and Standard. Never tried Resco though.
Has anyone had any luck with MS Voice Command on the blackjack 2 over bluetooth or otherwise?
August 27th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
also interested in swapping the buttons out on my canadian bj2 (rogers sgh-i616) with something more preferable - definitely no CV.exe or medianet.exe files in my windows directory
tried searching for *.config files through explorer, but had no results - figured it’s not really searching my mobile’s files with the way activesync handles stuff
August 29th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Ive discovered a way to remap the Media Net and CV buttons a lot easier than the method described before. Go to this website and download JB Mort version 1.4.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382043 This handy app will allow you to perform a plethora of options, including the ability to remap your CV and Media Net buttons. Try it out!
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
The CV.exe and Medianet.exe files do not exist in WM6.1. Anyone know how to remap these buttons now?

September 3rd, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Under WM 6.1 (and ONLY for 6.1), to change functions of the MediaNet and CV buttons, overwrite the two respective shortcuts MediaNet and CellularVideo in Windows folder to any other programs. CV.exe and Medianet.exe are no longer needed.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Well your right about the Medianet. Its just a simple shortcut. Edit it with a file browser such as Total Commander and edit the device.home with what ever website you wish. Not sure what to do if your looking to launch an application. I guess you could create any shortcut and give it the same name but not sure since I could not overwrite the file.
The CV.exe files were renamed to CellularVideo.exe. Follow the instructions on this hack but instead of naming the files cv.exe and cv.exe.config name then CellularVideo.exe and CellularVideo.exe.config.
September 3rd, 2008 at 5:56 pm
kewlrobd, I’m not sure what you’re doing but Explore from ActiveSync works just fine. I created a shortcut of Garmin XT, copied it to the PC, renamed it MediaNet, and copied it back to BJII overwriting the original MediaNet. I did the same for CellularVideo but used File Explorer (fexplore.exe) shortcut. Now, AT&T button opens Garmin and CV button opens the File Explorer. As I said, cv.eve and medianet.exe are no longer needed; yes, you can rename cv.exe to cellularvideo.exe but that’s going about it the longer way for simple application launches. This is on a freshly upgraded BJII, nothing else hacked or modified.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I lack permissions to edit the CellularVideo shortcut or application. I have unlocked with both SDK and MoDaCo. I have vista 64bit, and wm 6.1. I also have checked View hidden files and uncheck Hide Protected OS Files. Any help? This is a similar problem to the “Edit Camera Sounds” page.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:45 am
Tsiphon, Vista has knows issues overwriting files in the windows directory of your phone. Use an XP machine if you have one available to you.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:54 am
Cee9, Well I must have been in Twilight Zone of Cell phones yesterday. Today my medianet shortcut file can be overwritten. I tried several times yesterday but it gave an error every time. I could swear the cellularvideo shortcut did not exist. I only saw one file named cellularvideo.exe so I assumed I had to use the same hack. Overwriting the shortcut is definitely cleaner and actually launches faster. Thanks a bunch.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:07 am
It worked for me…thanks a lot! It’s kind of easier than before in a way since you don’t have to know the directory for the program, just make a shortcut.
September 4th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Super! =)
September 5th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Im having a bit of a problem… The CV works fine but the Medianet will get me an error. It will start searching for http://device.home/ and give an alert the page cannot be found. I changed the shortcut to /Windows/iexplore.exe but it will still get the error message. Any ideas?
