pretty cool phone…..exact replica of the blackjack2….its the blackjack3, guess they just wanted to call it something else…..honestly i think a blackjack2 with the 6.1 upgrade is just as good a phone as this one…

  2. atlana Says:

actually, it is – only difference is it has WI-FI, slightly different BTv2 profiles, slightly better battery capacity (1800 mAh instead of 1700 mAh, and 133 MB user-EEPROM available instead of 155MB) – screen is 0.1 inches bigger, resolution is 320×320 instead of QVGA, and supports microSDHC (32gigs) instead of just microSD (4gigs) chips. Supposedly it has touchscreen (if i didn’t misread that) – I wonder what CPU is in there, prolly the same in BJ2.

  3. atlana Says:

CORRECTION…seems the BJ2 takes SDHC too – i bought FRI 24th at FRYS.com for 19 bucks [normally 40 USD] a 8 gigs microSD chip (only valid till TUE 28th), which is a SDHC version. Alas my current card-readers dont support SDHC so i’m loading up my 8 gigs microSDHC through the creeping USBv1.1 interface of the BJ2 *ugh!* ;-)

i was(read: past tense) going to go for the epix, especially after i saw that it was only 20 bones more than an upgrade to bj2.
now, att has it listed (after rebates) for 199.
    i fail.

Oh Boy did I lust after this thing, yes, it has everything mentioned by atlanta above – PLUS it’s Windows Mobile Professional – and that’s the part that is causing me to think twice. Do I really want to be pulling out a stylus, or messing with the “Optical Mouse” (Yes, I know you can switch it to be a standard pointer) seems I need another hand to use this, and the beauty of BJ2 is it’s one handed approach – with the exception of Key-combos. Heck, even Function+key or Shift-key works with one hand, just press, press. Lastly the thing is heavier and thickerer (Dating myself there – the old “Chunky Candy Bar” commercials, remember?

Anyway, I STILL keep staring at it and talking myself out of it, at least for a while – man, I LOVE my BJ2, and it just feels… disloyal. It’s like getting rid of the old wife for a younger, firmer, sexier… oh shit, there I go again. Have to keep reminding myself – I love my Wife, I love my BlackJack II… I love my wife; I love my BlackJack II…

Lastly, for folks that just can’t resist… use a 3rd party reseller, AT&T partner, and you can get this thing for free any day of the week. I like Letstalk.com, they will let you have as many of these free as you want to start new lines for. Hmmm… maybe I could start a new line & have one on the side. Yeah, that’s the ticket. I’ll put her up in a nice apartment… oh wait, it’s the PHONE I want on the side!!

why can’t they just call it the blackjack 3 like what it IS? Jesus. EPIX? come on. blackjack sounded less techy now it’s a not so very attractive name.

  8. fibrolan Says:

    Hi,

Is this new BJ3 or Epix use Smartphone programs or PPC programs ? Anyone know. I also saw a review that says that this processor is a 624Mhz processor. Really sweet. Making want to run out a buy one.

  9. david Says:

    fibrolan,
Its definitely runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, so it runs PPC programs. It has a touchscreen and everything. I just got my hands on one any its pretty sweet. I have to admit that despite the 624mhz processor is isnt as speedy as i’d like… I notice some lag moving between some screens (like messages and the Today screen)

  10. witty1 Says:

I have to say this is annoying as I saw this phone – and it worked well at CES last year in the Samsung booth – they said it was released in Europe? Pissed me off as the optical mouse – works off the movement of your finger over the sensor worked great! I like this format and migrated from a palm (yes I gave up alot), and the size and speed are great.

Anyway, I can’t see why they didn’t make it the blackjackIII??? Strange as I don’t know anyone with a blackjack who doesn’t like it for what it is – some do need more.

    Anyway, my 2 cents.

got to play with the BJ3 or EPIX yesterday, speed is astounding when loading web pages over 3G networks…but its a pain in the ass to scroll wihtout having to two hand it and get the stylus out. but i would still use my BJ2 over it for internet because when you subtract the couple seconds difference in loading time and substitute the ease of use while scroling/browsing pages its way better on BJ2. overall system performance lags a bit more in the EPIX, and with WM6.1 released now and voice commands all at the touch of a button

they should have called it the “EPIC” as in EPIC fail.
    LOL
