Blackjack II Windows Mobile 6.1 Sooner Than We Hoped? (I Hope!)
First off, let me say that this is all speculation and until AT&T and/or Samsung release an official statement!
King Fisher and rkmtnraz have alerted me to an update on Samsung’s Support Web site (Mirror, thanks germ) that suggests that the Windows Mobile 6.1 Update for the Blackjack II will be released sooner than I had thought!
Also Steven C. notified me AT&T has released the Windows Mobile 6.1 Update for the AT&T Tilt which lends even more credence to the notion that AT&T will be rolling out the Windows Mobile 6.1 Update for the Blackjack II soon.
All I have to say is I’m going to pissed if they release it this weekend since I’m going to be stuck in Florida for a wedding. Grr.
Of course there is no guarantees an I’m probably just getting everyone’s hopes up again like I promised not to. Sorry in advance

Awesome i really hope it does come out this weekend! I’m calling AT&T since the reps get the ROM update information a couple days in advanced. Post back soon
August 28th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
hope this is totally true
i need it to be!
i’m in the same boat as you David. I’ll be at a soccer tournament this weekend. Hopefully it comes out by tomorrow!

Logged on to the Samsung support site, looks like 6.1 is ready to go.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
now they’re just teasing us!
it has the site all layed out, but the links for the software doesn’t work!
August 28th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
yeah that sucks they need to put the links out im really anxious for them
August 28th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
do we just run the update on our phone?
August 29th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Hi,
can you please tell me what are the advantages of windows 6.1? Everybody is so excited, and I have no idea what new things it will bring, shoot I have no idea what I currently have on this phone.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:36 am
it looks like they’ve completely took the site down now
August 29th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Yeah…I’ve been looking every 10 minutes now, but they don’t have hardly anything on there except for a comment section.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Yee they probably took it off because of traffic (they got caught), so now the next time it will be updated it will probably have the download link. I hope
August 29th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Yes – I started seeing all kinds of stuff last night, incuding links to Samsung’s page with the non-working ROM links. Man, talk about teasing!!! I have a Blackjack II I got a month ago, and I am totaly enamoured of it. My first Smartphone (I have had plenty of Windows CE & Mobile Devices) I MUST HAVE THIS UPGRADE. Arrrrrrrrrgggghhh!!
August 29th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Im an AT&T Rep and im lookin just as much as you guys are for this update! I hate 6.O, although i did find a couple cool skins on this page to hold me over till the update is released, I spoke with a Samsung Rep yesterday wich this dude is worthless when i first met him i called him several times to get some info on 6.1 but he never returned my calls anyways i spoke to him yesterday and he said the update was being relased today by samsung and AT&T but im off today getting my U-Verse installed and lookin for the update but cant find it….theres that link out there for it but it dosent work so im guessing samsung is doin a couple last min things and relasing it this weekend sometime!
August 29th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I’m not going to hold my breath for this update. AT&T doesn’t stand to make a profit from releasing the update from what I can see and they are a business so that’s all they care about. God forbid they should throw their loyal freaking customers a bone and RELEASE THE UPDATE ALREADY. What’s the freaking hold up?
August 29th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
What the paged looked like for the people that missed it http://dandin1.no-ip.com/jereme/wm61bjII.html
August 29th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
but would the update break features of what we have now?…
eg
App Unlock
GPS unlock
Regedits, removing ringtone lock, Fn+BCKLK?? lock, edit \Windows…
think i’ll wait for someone else to be the guinea pig
August 29th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
WOW! i am soooo ready for this update,
as long as all the other little things we have on our phones still work!
lets go samsung!
August 30th, 2008 at 2:17 am
wth i cant find it anywhere and whoever i call tells me they have no idea when it is coming out
;(
August 30th, 2008 at 9:54 am
I found this on the att site:
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&ft=searchTab&ps=solutionPanels&locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&solutionId=KB92880&isSrch=Yes
check it out. At the bottom it has a link to the update but it’s only a placeholder at the moment. It says they are updating their site and to check back later. I think this is where we will need to go to get the update. Just thought i’d share that.

I finally got my Battery to last more than the duration of a work day. Now they come out with 6.1 for us. I also got the copy/paste functioning, don’t know if I care for threaded SMS, but do tell us how you find 6.1. does it correct the Battery problems? Also, wondering how we will get the update in Canada on Fide or Rogers? To my knowledge I have never seen rogers or fido release a ROM update.

I just finished upgrading, and so far so good. It did seem to reboot a bit slow after the initial upgrade and reset, but after that reboots seem normal. I did totally screw up the part about removing the SIM card though. For some idiotic reason I kept thinking it was talking about the memory card. It was not until I had just performed the reset and it said to re-insert the SIM that my brain finally clicked on and I realized I removed the wrong card. It still works fine, but I don’t use the SIM to store any contacts. I was wigging out a bit until it actually came back up and I was able to make a call and re-sync all my contacts. I am about to try out some of the new features and try re-installing some stuff.

September 2nd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
I have been playing and the threaded text messages are nice. I am having issues with the MS Voice Commander stuff. Holding the AT&T Globe button down will set the app to listen mode with the mic icon showing (the app is in the startup group). It will listen for a bit then the mic will go away. Seems kinda flaky. The MoDaCo GPS hack thing seemed to work and I got it connecting on com4 and google maps works as well as other GPS utils. The SDA App Unlocker doesn’t seem to work and I can’t modify any of the AT&T shortcuts or use the Registry Edit tool.
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Oh yea, LEDAlerts works, SMSBubbles works, Facade works, Chartcross GPS Test works, Efficasoft GPS Utilities works…
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:06 pm
shit. im upgrading tonight! how long does the whole process take?
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Works well for me. I’m thrilled to finally have it! I just thought I’d point out a few things:
1. It seems that I’m able to install any programs/mods that I wish without app unlocking my phone.
2. GPS seems to work fine without the hack. I installed google maps and it works without any problems. In fact it seems to acquire a satellite fix MUCH faster than it used to.
3. The voice command thing kinda stinks… Maybe it’s me but it doesn’t seem to recognize commands.
4. The new home screen is fantastic! I don’t know how I ever lived without it.
5. All my contacts and such were restored without a problem after the update via activesync so no worries there.
That’s about it for now. I’ll post again if I find anything else interesting. Cheers!
