How to Install a Theme
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to install one of themes I’ve created for MyBlackjack2.com/TheSmartFONE.com. I’ve recently converted all the MyBlackjack2.com/TheSmartFONE.com Themes to be CAB files which allows for easy-installation/removal.
How to install a MyBlackjack2.com/TheSmartFONE.com Theme:
- Download and install the CAB file to your Smartphone
- On your Smartphone, navigate to: Start > Settings > Display > Home Screen
- Set “Home screen layout” to the name of the theme you’d like to use (Ex. “OS X Leopard”)
- Set “Color scheme” to “Default”
- Set “Background Image” to “Default”
- Hit “Done” and go back to your Home Screen
How to install a .ZIP Theme file.
(MyBlackjack2.com/TheSmartFONE.com does not use this method anymore, but you may find themes on other sites that do.)
- Download the Theme ZIP file
- Unzip the Theme ZIP file
- Copy the contents of the Theme ZIP file to /Application Data/Home/ on your Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone
- On your Smartphone, navigate to: Start > Settings > Display > Home Screen
- Set “Home screen layout” to the name of the theme you’d like to use (Ex. “OS X Leopard”)
- Set “Color scheme” to “Default”
- Set “Background Image” to “Default”
- Hit “Done” and go back to your Home Screen

I tried to download some of the themes on this page and it keeps on saying that I cannot view on file this device. What is going on?

morrissey,
Are you copying the theme .JPG and .HOME.XML files to your Blackjack 2’s /Application Data/Home/ directory?
Can you explain step by step what you to leading up to this error message?
Thanks

Alright, I am not trying to download from the ebsite to my computer and then to the phone. I am trying to direct download from the website to my phone via the browser on my phone. I was trying to download v2 of the Brianberry themes. I click on the download link…connecting…locateing…ERROR “This file cannot be viewed on the device”.
I did download the gps/app unlocker. While doing so it said that I had a newer version and that the program may not function properly.
Let me know what you think.

morrissey,
It looks like PocketIE is having trouble downloading themes from this site. I see if i can figure out why and update you via this comment thread.

alex,
You can:
1) EASIEST WAY: Goto http://www.MyBlackjack2.com or http://www.TheSmartFONE.com on your mobile phone’s web browser and download the CAB Theme file DIRECTLY to your phone.
2) E-mail the Theme CAB file to your phone
3) You can copy the Theme CAB file to your phone using ActiveSync
4) You can connect to your phone as a USB device and copy the CAB file to your phone/
5) You can copy the Theme CAB file to your microSD card from your computer, put it in your phone, and installed the CAB file from the microSD card.

Hey, When i try to download a CAB, it comes up as 2 separate files… one reads setup and the other the CAB. And when i put it in my phone via Active Sync, it wont run the file…I notice it says at the top to “Not Unzip the File”, how can i get it to look as a file?
August 2nd, 2008 at 1:43 pm
harder, youre probably automatically unzipping the file. Try right clicking on the Download link and selecting “Save As” ..

Does the phone need to be connected to internet?

Usually I can download songs on my laptop from mediaplayer and just sync its easy.
I cant find a way to send files to my phone though. Is there a certain menu??
Also does the phones internet have to be active? Do i need to have internet on my phone?
I usually connect the USB to my laptop and and send music files through sync.
Not sure how to send files =(
When I download this theme it showed me a winzip file.
Somone help me out ive been trying for long. Thanks

mike222, youre probaly unzipping the cab file. DONT UNZIP CAB FILES EVER!!
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:01 am
you guys rock… I found the easiest way to download the cab file from Internet Explorer on your device, it should automatically download it to ‘My Documents’ and it will automatically install. Then make sure to change the settings in ‘Display’ as stated in the instructions. This will also add icons when you go to start and click more to customize the Weather and My People…This theme is Nice.. You may receive a message stating that the theme will not look correct because it was designed for an earlier version of windows mobile (If you’ve upgraded your device to 6.1) but it works fine and looks great!!
Thanks Guys!

Hi. I’m new to this!
Can someone help or advise. I really love the Brian theme. And would like to know how can I or could this theme be made for my BB Bold? As I think you (Brian) have done an outstanding job.
Thanks for reading.
Ps.
I am new this. If I have place this comment in the wrong section
I am sorry!
Thanks again.

ctu, am i correct in understand you want to install the Brianberry Bold theme on your Blackberry Bold phone? If so you wont be able to do this since the theme was created exclusively for windows mobile 6+ smartphones. (Blackberry phones do not run Windows Mobile OS)
November 22nd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Hey just wondering what software do you use to create the different themes?
November 22nd, 2008 at 4:13 pm
JJJD, I use Notepad++ (any text edit works though, like Notepad) and Photoshop. I use Visual Studio to package the themes into cabs (though this isnt necessary, just more convenient for users).
November 22nd, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Thanks and one more thing on Notepad++ how do create a new theme using the icons if you could give me a step by step I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in Advance.

Hi, I have the T-Mobile Wing and its running Windows Mobile. I am having a hard time trying to install these themes onto my phone. Everything is simple, but my problem is, after I install it, I’m suppose to go to Atart >Setting > Display> Home Screen. Nowhere on the phone do I see Display. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
December 13th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
htran89, This is because the T-Mobile Wing is running Windows Mobile 6.1 PRO (not Standard). The Wing is a touch screen device so these theme are not going to work on it. sorry

Oh, no wonder. Thats a bummer. Kind of wish I got another phone then. Thank you david.
December 16th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
i so need help on getting the themes on without getting online.. can anyone help me step by step how to.. i mean i got the file downloaded into my laptop but once i try to open it up to put into my phone it wont let me.. can anyone help?
December 16th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
ecy, when you say “open it up” i hope dont mean unzipping the CAB file. You NEVER unzip cab files. Please follow the directions in this post, the first of which asks you to read this post … Its pretty easy to do if you follow the steps.

This is what i did. While at work is the only time I have to hunt for stuff for my phone online, so i decided to use my Outlook at work to send me links to download stuff from Myblackjack2.com, it works! If you email the link to your phone, you can download it from the link directly to your phone. From there follow it is self explanitory on the instructions for downloading. Then just apply the theme.

Another site with WM6 Themes is http://sites.google.com/site/wm6smarrtphonethemes/
April 19th, 2009 at 7:44 am
Just wondering… could this mess up my blackjack 2 in any way? And if it did could i do some kind of restore to put it back to deafult settings (factory settings) ?
April 26th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
fox – installing themes should not mess up your phone in anyway. any changes the themes make can be undone by uninstalling the theme.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:42 am
Hey, if anyone is having trouble downloading any .CAB files it might be your browser. I normally use Opera and I was unable to download anything (themes, games, etc). As soon as I switched to Internet Explorer every download worked fine.
