Create New Text Messages with Speed Dial
There are always those couple people in your phone that you text all the time .. Creating a new Text message on the Blackjack II can be annoying (Going to Messages, New Text Message, Add Recipients, Search for your recipient, Select recipient … not to mention all the load time between those steps).
Bryan J. sent me a great tip for streamlining this process using Speed dial!
When you think about it, its fairly self evident, but I wasn’t taking advantage of it, so I’m guessing there are a lot of other people that aren’t either.
Here’s what you do:
- Go to “Contacts”
- Select the Contact (Center D-Pad button)
- Highlight “Send text message”
- Click “Menu” (Right soft key)
- Select “Add Speed Dial” (Second from the bottom)
- Change keypad assignment to the desired Speed Dial number
- Select “Done” (Left soft key)
When you’re on the home screen, hold down the corresponding Speed Dial number key (you don’t need to press Fn) . This will open up the standard “Call Search” screen, keep holding the Speed Dial number key down. After 2 seconds a blank Text Message will open with the correct recipient already added.
Note, if you use a two-digit Speed Dial number (Ex. 24), from the home screen, type in the first number (Ex. 2) and then press and hold the second number (Ex. 4) until the new Text Message screen appears.
This same technique can be used to add Speed Dial to Call or E-mail; In Step 3, highlight the function you want to add Speed Dial to.
Thanks to Bryan J. for the great tip!

Thanx! this really helps!
Now, is there a way to save an already written text message for later use?
I know that you can send it to the drafts folder, but i want to be able to send the same message multiple times, and when you send it via the drafts folder, it removes it

Ok… I installed most of the hacks from this site (SDA Unlocker, HTC Theme, Ringtone size, Graphics and speed performance) and now I cannot see the various other options when I select the contact. It only gives me the option to call and the “send text message” and “send e-mail” options are not there anymore. I have restarted the phone, restored the old theme and I still do not have my old options back. Any advice?

Try uninstalling all the programs you installed since these options have gone missing. None of the hacks you listed would cause the problem you’ve described – if that doesn’t work you can always restore your phone to factory default settings — This will erase everything on your phone (your SIM contacts and anything on your microSD card will be OK) your Outlook contacts and everything stored to your phone’s memory will be erased.

Actually… I just figured out what the issue was. I have all of my contacts numbers listed under “Home”. Once they are moved to “Mobile” then I am able to see the “send text mesage” option.
Sorry for the confusion.

I don’t like the AT&T Home screen so I switched to using the default Sliding Panel with Media.
I used CHome Configurator to create a new panel each for my favorite contacts & applications & it gives me the option to send an SMS to the contact by just pressing the Right-Softkey when the contact is selected in the MyContacts Panel. This makes using scroll wheel with the Home UI a lot more user friendly & intuitive.

Does anyone know a trick to select mulitple contacts when sending a text message without leaving the contacts page and having to come back. On my old razr, I could select person after person and then select done and that would send a message to all the people I selected. It takes me forever to insert via the middle button and scroll all the way through my list again and again. Thanks for the help!!

Either I’m an idiot or it’s not there (or both), but I don’t see an “Add Speed Dial” option in my screen.
I follow steps 1 – 4, and then hit a roadblock at 5.
Any suggestions?
