How to Install a CAB File
Here is a quick tutorial on how to run CAB files on your Blackjack 2. CAB files are software installation packages (similar to .MSI files in windows). Most software you will install on your Blackjack 2 will come packaged as a CAB file.
- Do NOT unzip the CAB file!!!
- Transfer the CAB file to your phone; remember what folder you copy the CAB file to — “My Documents” is generally the default location.
- Copy the CAB file using ActiveSync
- Send the CAB file using Bluetooth
- Copy the CAB file to your microSD card, and then put the microSD card in your Blackjack 2.
- E-mail the CAB file to yourself; Save attachment to your Blackjack 2
- Download the CAB file from a Web site from your Smartphone.
- Save the CAB file to your phone using your web browser’s “Save As” feature; Go to Step 3 below.
- Open the CAB file using your web browser’s “Open” feature; Skip to Step 6 below.
- Goto Start > Applications > File Explorer
- Navigate to the folder containing the CAB file (generally “My Documents”)
- Select the CAB file, and click the select button on the D-Pad
- Follow the onscreen instructions (If pompted you will generally want to install software to your Device rather than a Storage Card)
- After the installation is complete, goto Start > Applications and run the newly installed software.
Once a CAB file has been installed you may delete the CAB file from your Blackjack 2.
To uninstall a CAB file, go to “Start > Settings > Remove Programs” and Select the corresponding program you wish to uninstall.

ok but how do I Uninstall it…?
June 8th, 2008 at 10:03 am
lalaboy,
I added a line to the bottom of the post explaining how to Uninstall a CAB File.
July 10th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Do you need to leave the cab file on the phone after you install it? Or can you delete it after to free up space?
July 12th, 2008 at 8:59 am
H,
After installing a CAB file to your phone you can delete the CAB file.
July 20th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
I cant even find the CAB file to download….?
July 20th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
xMisses3x …. each program/hack/theme is its own CAB file. Each post has a Download link directly below the title.. clicking on it will initiate the download of a CAB file, or take you to the program creator’s home page where you can then download the CAB file.
July 20th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
So I’d really like to do this, but when I drag or sync the file over to the phone, I can’t see it. The only way I can find the file is if I’m in the explorer on the device and search for it, but I then can’t do anything with it. Is this a security issue, certificate?
July 21st, 2008 at 12:16 am
thickconfusion, are you using the file explorer (Start > Applications > File Explorer) on your phone to locate and run the CAB file?
July 21st, 2008 at 5:16 pm
ok i have a question and no one att&t or samsung can answer but maybe one of you can i spent the extra money on vista hp only to find out it almost works like reg. home. My blackjack 2 will not install the cab for works it uses active sync so why can’t i use that instead of haveing to go out and spend another $102 on outlook when works does what i need. can you please help me and i am sorry if this is in the wrong place.
July 21st, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Thanks so much david…I was just using the normal My Stuff, which apparently hides everything else. I got it now, I’m just trying to get the GPS going
July 22nd, 2008 at 9:04 am
mistress,
not sure i understand what youre asking… what are you trying to do? What does Outlook have to do with installing a CAB file? sorry – im just very confused to what youre asking.
July 22nd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
My “works” on my computer would do just fine for me only if my phone would install the .cab files for it. I get a message on my phone that was not desinded for my device ie. my blackjack2. i know I spent a lot of $$ for my phone but I did not think I would have to spend more to use the blasted calender and hubby is not thrilled with this fact , on top of things. Is there some way I can get Works to sync with my phone?
July 26th, 2008 at 2:02 am
i downloaded and installed it, but i don’t see an icon for it in applications..
July 26th, 2008 at 10:37 am
q.roxor .. which CAB file are you talking about? Some CAB files don’t have icons in the Start Menu (like Themes or some Hacks)
August 14th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I can’t install some of the apps for some reason…
whenver i try and install some of them it says this:
“Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permission”
Help would be really appreciated!
Thank you in advance
August 14th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Markel,
What apps are you trying to install? Have you application unlocked your phone using the MoDaCo GPS Hack or SDA Application Unlocker?
August 15th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I have the MoDaCo GPS HACK as a CAB file and whenever i try and install it, that message appears. I followed the steps and the only problem is it stops loading and that message appears
August 15th, 2008 at 10:52 am
markel, no idea — ive never heard of that happening. you have a blackjack II running WM 6 right? try unlocking your phone w the SDA Application Unlocker first…?
August 15th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Yes I do have WM 6. Is there like a catch with the SDA App. Unlocker? If there isn’t anything bad about it then I’ll try running it.
August 15th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Markel,
SDA App is very safe — just follow the directions and everything will be fine!
September 4th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I just installed 6.1. I put a .cab on my micro SD card. I cannot see .cab files, but I can see others (.doc .ppt ect.)
Are these hidden files? Do I have to run something to be able to run .cab files?
September 5th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
In case someone else has the same issue, .cad files do not show up under “My Stuff” you must use “File Explorer”
September 17th, 2008 at 9:27 am
so i just installed wm6.1, and i cant get a file to my phone, i’ve tried emailing it, and i have no micro sd card
there is no ‘my documents’ to activesync with
what should i do?
October 18th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
David, is it completely neccessary that you have the microSD card for this hack?
October 19th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
z99, You don’t need a microSD card for any of the hacks on this site.
October 22nd, 2008 at 6:08 pm
easy. Thanks
October 25th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
ok i really need help i cant find the CAB file to download and these directions r really hard so if u find a answer please help me please
October 25th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
BBalBally,
The Download Link for the CABs are located at the top of each post. They will either start the download automatically or take you to the download page where you can download the CAB.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
ok but like i have it downloaded and i have my phone connected to the computer idk how to do this stuff please help me from the begging
November 8th, 2008 at 2:07 am
hey david, i just got my blackjack 2 so i havent explored much with it but ive been readin this site for a couple of days now, good job on it btw. so my question is, is the MoDaCo GPS Hack and the rest of the CAB files for some of apps safe ? cuz yea i spent a decent amount of cash on the phone, dont want it screwin up already u know ?
November 8th, 2008 at 2:09 am
oh and also, all the cabs for the apps like making the ringtone size bigger and the rest work after u upgrade ur BJ2 with WM 6.1 right ?
November 8th, 2008 at 2:12 am
one more thing actually, sorry for the spam but i just read the thing about ppl having problems upgradin to WM 6.1, the cabs for the apps will still work if i dont upgrade to 6.1 right ? Thanks again.
November 9th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Tonythe1, all the CAB files on this site are safe. You can actually perform a factory reset of your phone and it will remove any hacks/mods/applications/games that you download from this site or perform based on information on this site. In a nutshell everything on this site, with the exception of the WM6.1 upgrade, is reversible and won’t break your phone. All the CAB files can be uninstalled individually as well, so if you dont like something you can uninstall it. You wont screw anything up, and you definitely wont screw up your phone permanently (since you can always perform a factory reset).
Almost every single CAB file on the site works for WM6.0 and WM6.1 .. if it doesnt work on WM6.1 it will tell you that its not compatible and either not install, or install and not work. At that point you can uninstall anything that doesnt work.
November 11th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
thanks a lot man, i appreciate it!
November 11th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
is anyone else not able to see cab files and simply getting them as grayed out when u search for them?
November 12th, 2008 at 12:12 am
FierceDietyMask – Are you using the File Explorer to browse for your cab files?
November 28th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
All I did was download the file from the site using my phone and it asked if I wanted to install. However after installing it I could find the cab file in file manager but couldn’t figure out how to enable it. After installing you have to go Start-> Settings-> Display-> and change your Home Screen. Why this wasn’t in the instructions I don’t know. I had to do a google search to find out how to do this
!
December 4th, 2008 at 1:35 am
i downladed the cab file off the site onto my comp but i dont know how to copy the cab file onto my bj2. do you just right click it copy and paste it somewhere in your phone files?
December 5th, 2008 at 10:33 am
You can copy it over using active sync, if you have a microSD card you can copy to to that and then put the microSD card in your computer or you can e-mail the file to yourself. If you have unlimited data its probbably easier to download the CAB files directly to your phone.
December 8th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
can you download this without the data plan?(i.e no Internet on smartphone)
December 8th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
meisrad,
You can copy the CAB to your Blackjack II using ActiveSync or if you have a microSD card you can copy them to the microSD from your computer and then put the card in your Blackjack II.
December 9th, 2008 at 1:37 am
okay.
i used my micro sd card and copied the files from the cab onto it plugged it in my bj2 and when i opened setup just a bunch of numbers and text came up.
any help would be appreciated.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:22 am
crazyidiot, it sounds like youre UNZIPPING the CAB. You dont want to unzip a CAB file, copy just the CAB file (.cab) to your microSD card and youll be fine.
December 29th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
wat if ur blackjack 2 doesnt have internet…
December 29th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
michael88 – re-read step 2 .. it lists 3 ways of copying files to your Blackjack 2 not using the internet.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
do u have to install the modaco or the sda unlocker if ur phone is unlocked for tmobile and how would i download the stuff straight from my phone is i dont got att to get the internet, cant i just downloaded the cab files and put it on the bj2 documents and run it from there n
January 20th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
jorgeangel, It sounds like your phone is SIM Unlocked — MoDaCo GPS hack and SDA App Unlocker Application Unlock your phone — these are two different types of “unlocks”. I would recommend not App Unlocking your phone until your run into a situation that you need to. A lot of people that run WM 6.1 report that their phones seem already to be App Unlocked — re-app unlocking probably won’t have any negative effects, but why do it if you don’t have to to.
January 20th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
well im trying to make the ringtone thing and the themes and the annoying pop up messege thing so how would i add the cab files and that stuff just save to the computer n sync to the documents and run them or wat
January 25th, 2009 at 4:30 am
oookk..first of all HI david, well yea i can’t email the .cab files and then iidk if the ‘TINY’ microSD card can go IN my computer so i’m a bit confused… how do i put it in my computer??? can you please help me out? There are so many things i wanna do but i cant get ONE done maybe cus im stupid? lol idk but please help me i would really appreciate it thanks!
January 25th, 2009 at 5:48 am
i have another question is this all free? thanks for letting m know
January 26th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Everything on the site with the exception of the LED Alerts program and the Accessories are all free! enjoy!
January 26th, 2009 at 12:41 am
nicegirl – you can copy CAB files to your computer using Activesync (if you have a Windows Comptuer) using the USB cable that came w your Blackjack 2. Or if you have a microSD card, it should have come with some kind of SD card adapter. To access your microSD card from your computer youll need some kind of SD card reader for your computer. (See the accessories section). Make sure you have the microSD to SD card adapter first though – because youll need that to put into the USB to SD card adapter. Im not aware of USB microSD adapters for the computer.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
im having the same troubles as MARKEL where i try to install a cab (MoDaCo GPS HACK) file and an error message comes up and when i was reading i see that the SDA unlocker doesn’t work in Canadian phones because it prevents the ability of making a call. is there any setting in the phone you have to change like that or any ideas how to fix this.
February 4th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Anyone knows how to set up a wm 6.1 emulator to test the cab file? I want to test each application before i install it to my bj2.
February 21st, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Okay, I’ve got a problem trying to install a CAB file. I can get it to the phone, and yes, it doesn’t show up in My Documents, but when I search for it, I can fine it. My problem is that “Open” is grayed out. I’ve tried the SDA ApplicationUnlock program, but I still can’t unlock it. I’ve also installed Microsoft’s Security Configuration Manager and have set the configuration to “Security Off”, but still can’t select Open. Any ideas?
March 7th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Every time I download a cab file to my BJ, I go to file explorer and click the dpad and it says “ALART there is no application associated with ‘…”
What am I doing wrong?
March 9th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
calebsBJ – are you sure youre not unzipping the cab file? If the cab file you copy to your phone has the .cab file extension for your BJ2 should def recognize it.
March 10th, 2009 at 6:59 am
Here’s what I’m doing…
click the download button (from my computer)
I copy the files to a folder on my computer (it asks me if I want to extract them, instead I drag to folder)
I drag the files from the folder to my BJ2′s documents
Then I check the file explorer on my phone to see if it’s on there.
It is but when I click onto it, it says that there’s no application associated with…
March 10th, 2009 at 8:23 am
calebsBJ, hrmm – very strange. Whats the icon for the CAB files look like on you Blackjack 2? Also – youre definitely using “File Explorer” and not “My Stuff” to try to run the CABs right?
March 10th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
When I go to file explorer to see the files that I have transferred, I usually see a file named “setup” and it has an icon that looks like a sheet of paper with a blue dot on it. Properties says that it is a XML document.
The other files under it have a logo that’s blue, red, green and yellow. They are unknown type.
March 24th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Okay, I’m new to this phone, this is probably so simple, but when I try to install some of the CABs (not all, but some), I get the following error
Installation was unseccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.
Any work around this? Am I doing anything wrong? If it helps, I live in Canada and am on Fido, though I don’t see how that would matter.
March 25th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
If I do not have a Micro SD card, then there is no other way i can download CAB files to my BlackJack2?
March 29th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
michellex – yes there is. you can copy the CAB files from your computer to your bj2 via activesync, bluetooth (if your computer has bluetooth), you can email the CAB files to your blackjack ii or you can download the CAB files directly to you blackjack II using your favorite web browser.
March 29th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
deadnotsleeping – what CAB files in particular are giving you this problem?
April 13th, 2009 at 12:40 am
DAVID!?
im so confusedd!!
i usually do not have this much trouble with apps and such on my bj2
i would have left this comment on the MODACO thing but my comp wont let me. idk!?
anyways,
im lost. i have read almost every comment on that very post trying to figure out how to get that unlocker ^^ on my fone. i have downloaded it multiple times on my computer and i now have NO IDEA how to get it to my fone.
i have right clicked.
saved to my comp.
then i have tried copying it to my fone.
it shows that it has been copied when i look at it on the comp, but when i try to find it on my fone it isnt there. and it isnt under the remove programs either. im really lost and i need help because i would really like to have that SMS Bubbles on my fone, but i cant figure that out either. is there any way that i could get that and a theme without having to unlock my whole fone with the modaco?!
yewr help would be GREATLLLY appreciated!!!
((:
thanks soo much.
April 15th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
courtneytrue02 – Can you even get the CAB file to your Blackjack II? You dont need MoDaCo to install themes and you probably dont need MoDaCo to install SMS Bubbles — however if you cant figure out how to install the MoDaCo CAB on your Blackjack 2, you probably arent going to be able to install SMS Bubbles or any themes.
The easiest way to copy CAB files to your phone is to connector your Blackjack II to your Windows Computer using the USB cable. After connecting you should have a “Mobile Device” icon in “My Computer” (on your computer). Double-click the “Mobile Device” and then drag and drop the CAB files wherever you want on your phone. I would suggest in the My Documents folder.
You can then run the File Explorer (Applications > File Explorer) on your Blackjack II, find the CAB files you copied over and run them by pressing the center d-pad button.
May 1st, 2009 at 6:15 pm
okay.. im new to this site.. and i wanna get the leopard theme… but i have no idea what a CAB is.. is it on my phone?? where do i find it… and how do i get it on my phone so i can get the leopard theme? i dont understand the directions at the top of the page….
May 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
I’m having tons of problems with this…I’ve got the file on a microsd…but when i try to file explore on my phone, it freezes up and won’t let me find the cab file. All it will find is the folder named audio (there are others on there). What am I doing wrong?
I have to take the memory card out of the phone for it to start back up (not freeze)
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 pm
BTW…I’m running a BJ2 that came with WM6.1..didn’t update. Is that why?
May 16th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Brthnezr3, i cant imagine what could be causing your phone to freeze like that… Are these certain folders on your blackjack ii that you can browse in your file explorer? or are there certain folders that cause your phone to freeze?
May 16th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Brthnezr3, using a blackjack ii that came with WM6.1 should not cause this problem.
May 29th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
I have the file dowloaded and installed onto my phone.. but when i go into my applications it’s not there to open…. where is it??
May 31st, 2009 at 10:35 am
nmos – you have to go to Applications > File Explorer and then browse to your “My Documents” folder (or wherever you saved the CAB file to on your Blackjack II) to run the CAB file.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
yah david. im getting the same problem as deadnotsleeping.
it keeps saying i dont have permissions…
ive tried all the games, and a few of the hacks.
still the same thing.
im on fido and i live in canada.
what do you think i should do?
July 31st, 2009 at 4:01 am
im trying to get this right…i DL the cab file transferred it to my phone and when i try to open it, its telling me to open theres no app associated with the file and to run the app first then open file inside the app…i dont get it can anyone help or explain to me pls!!

Hi Davis, thank you for the cab file for using larger ring tones on my blackjack II, didnt have any trouble getting it running, it’s great.
My question now is: I have an 8GB SD card which I want to move all the ring tones on to, when I did, the phone does not see them, I created a file “my document” on the SD card, and it dont see them, where should I put them so the phone will see them ?
Thanks again, your web site is GREAT

Hi,
I have a WM6.5 CE OS 5.2.21234 build 21812.5.0.50 phone.
I am trying to run a .cab file and I am getting the following error.
The cab file is to enable English T9 feature.

I have placed the .cab file under “My Documents”.
Please help me.
Also, how to edit the registry of a CE phone? Please explain the steps.
